Hi Crew

I have 83,500 on our '03 Sport Edition V8, and i'd like to beging collecting the necessary available parts for the 90k service.

We all are aware that if we bring our trucks to the dealership and purchase the parts directly from them, it'll cost a hefty sum. Id like to ask you guys the following:

1) What OEM parts can I purchase to prepare myself for this service?

(i'll be purchasing a new Water Pump for the engine, just because i might as well, while they have the old one off).

2) Where do you all perfer to order from to get the best price?

(ie: Conicellis? ToyotaPartsSales.com? etc etc)

Thanks in advance!

Ok thanks, but is that list the same for any 4.7L? The ones with VVTI are different from my 03 that doesnt have it.

And..where's the best site to order them from?

Yeah, good point. I'm not sure. Maybe one of the more mechanically inclined members can chime in. (I'm definitely not one :). Good luck. And I'm interested in what you find out as well bc will be the in about 20k miles.

Well,....is it a State secret where you ordered yours from?

Im pricing out the same list of items as you bought from an OEM part online ordering place. They want $420 and change. Did your source beat that? Were they all OEM?

:::BUMP!:::

Im ready to buy from Conicelli's.

Anyone have a more reliable/better priced site/source for OEM equipment for 90k materials/parts?

A state secret??

Most forums don't allow or want you to put up non-approved sponsors business names and prices and that's why I didn't list them. I listed the Toyota part #'s so idk why you would ask if they are oem?

If you wanted to know pricing you could have private messaged me. That being said the pricing you were quoted looks about right.

Ive seen vendor names thrown around in here for parts and for being a good source for parts. A bunch of threads have names of vendors. Cant recall a thread thats been shut down for excessive name-dropping.

I wasnt looking for specific price matching. I just wanted to know where you ordered yours from. If you prefered to not say, PM it, whatever, thats all well and good. At any rate, thanks for the feedback.

I get my parts here but not sure if they are cheaper than the other sites listed. https://www.1sttoyotaparts.com/
I also did the thermostat, radiator hoses, oil cooler hoses and coolant hoses to the throttle body when I did my timing belt. They are realatively cheap and easy to repalce when doing the timing belt.

Couple of thoughts.

First. You do realize the timing belt is 90k or 72 months, whichever comes first? With an '03, you're 2-3 years overdue depending on build date. Probably not a gamble I'd have made in the MA climate.

Second. I love how everyone automatically assumes the dealer is the worst place to buy parts without actually getting their price. If you're going to let the dealer do the labor, chances are the parts will be the same as ordering from a dealership like Conicelli that also happens to sell parts online. After all, their wholesale costs are the same from Toyota. Even when I DIY the labor, my local dealer has always pretty much matched online pricing once you account for shipping. As a point of comparison, I just had mine done today (only 80k, but almost 2 years overdue by build date) for $600 at the dealer (T-belt, water pump, V-belt)...technically a 5.5 hour job per the book with $94/hr labor. Local Indy (Toy/Honda specialist) wanted $850 using OEM parts/fluids.

River, im getting quotes from Dealerships that range from $1700 - $1070.

Try not making accusations that I didnt do my homework and shop around by first asking my local dealership their prices.

Congrats on your $600 90k service job. I'll mail you a cookie.

If I remember correctly, I got a quote of about $1100 myself

90k/60mo is VERY VERY VERY conservative for these belts. I know some people who had over 300K on theirs.

Relax, Francis.

When you post on a forum, you can only expect responses based on the facts in evidence. You open with (paraphrased) "where can I order OEM parts cheap because everyone knows you get screwed at the dealer?". Even in followup posts, you never mentioned that you'd already gotten local quotes.

Not that it changes anything I said. The fact remains the parts vendors' (online & local) price will be the same for OEM parts. The consumer (your) price from that vendor is then determined by shipping costs, vendors desired/needed profit margin, and your ability to negotiate. Econ 101...you've got to sell something for more than you paid for it. Dealer's got a service waiting room with free wi-fi, TV, newspapers, doughnuts, coffee, etc. in additional overhead compared to an online wharehouse only vendor yet mine still matches online prices without much effort on my part...refer to negotiation factor in consumer price.

Now, service at the dealer will be a sum of parts + labor. In my case, the dealer clearly either charged less time than the book or absorbed the parts costs into the labor since T-belt labor alone would have been 5.5 * 94 = $517 (add more for add'l parts). BTW, good luck finding a dealer that will let you bring in your own parts for a T-belt service. I imagine you'll even have trouble with most Indy shops. If you do get that lucky, I'd expect them to charge you full book (remember, 5.5 hours just for the T-belt). Even if you go with a non-OEM parts for $200ish, you're still knocking on the door of your $1k quote and probably have no warranty at all due to customer supplied parts.

If you want to go non-OEM parts, well, let me Google that for you. I'd probably go with the RockAuto kit for $150ish. If you search the forum, you'll probably find other sources since this is the umpteenth timing belt thread...

Don't trouble yourself with a cookie. I tried to be helpful by sharing my own recent experience so you could have a point of reference...your only real difference *should* be labor/tax, depending on your people skills (or lack thereof). Especially since it sounds like you have a number of local dealers competing with each other. My next nearest Toy dealer is 1.5 hours away so there's no real service competition besides the Indy shops if you want OEM and factory certified techs.

One last pointer. You keep saying "90k service". Is that what you asked for when you called your local dealers? A better approach is to get pricing on exactly what you want done...a dealer's idea of 90k service can differ from what Toyota calls for.

Id like to bring this topic back up, but just to hear from ANYONE THATS HAD IT DONE!

Any "surprises" that needed to be done that added to the cost?

Any items that were routinely replaced that you didnt expect/realize?

Any horror stories from people that had the 90k maintenence done and something terrible happened afterwards due to shotty work?

Im finally pulling the trigger on the 90k service + timing belt.

After all the "what parts should get changed", etc etc, here's the list:

GETTING REPLACED:
Timing Belt
Serpentine Belt
Water Pump w/ gasket
Thermostat w/ seal

GETTING CHECKED, REPLACED IF NECESSARY:
Left & Right Idler Pulleys
Tensioner
Upper & Lower Radiator Hoses

NO NEED TO REPLACE (according to Head Service guy):
Crankshaft Seal
Camshaft Seal
PCV Valve (was done at 60k maint.)

This is getting done next Thursday. Anyone see something i forgot? Something on the list (or not, for that matter) that DEF. SHOULD GET changed?
