91 4runner transmission prob

i have a 91 runner sr5 v6 automatic 4wd, the transmission seems to be starting out in second gear and the other the day the transmission temp came on, it did go out after i let it cool down and has not come back on but i have not driven it much, the od light keeps flashing and it does not go into overdrive. any suggestions? i do have a transmission from a 96 4runner v6 automatic if i need to swap them out will that one work?

From what I was told the 3rd gen transmissions are different. Even have different part numbers in the toyota epc......

Possible shift solenoid problem. Search my first couple of posts. There are some pretty good discussions about what I did. Plus there's a link that tells you how to shoot the codes and find out what they mean. The solenoid kit for my runner was less than $200 and a snap to install.

thanks for the ideas, i did alot of searching in this site yesterday and i got some good ideas that i will look into. i will keep you all advised. unfortunately it will have to wait till this weekend, work calls.
