91 v6 has inconsistent idle....New to forum, new to toyota

This is my first toyota and so far I'm stoked....Only two issues so far!
Powertrain seems solid and it runs like a champ. I've been browsing some threads but I couldn't find anything specific to my particular symptoms.
Sometimes I get a randomly low idle at like 400, 500 rpms and it has stalled a couple times. (no codes, no check engine lights). Never stalls at lights when I'm driving. It's always on a fresh start usually after engine has warmed up then cooled a bit. Never happens when She's cold!...If I try and clear it out(rev it up) it doesn't help. I just have to get it in gear and get it moving for it to smooth out.....Secondly, is the starter.... I have to smack it with a metal rod from time to time. There seems to be alot of threads regarding this so I'm still researching previous posts(bear with me). Had it off and had a friend (whose a mechanic) take a look at it for me. when he opened it up it looks like the things brand new. No signs of wear at contact points on the outside as well....Once i put it back on it was great for about a week then started the same thing. Thanks for the help any input is greatly appreciated!!

I got the same issues with my '93 2nd gen v6 and have had it for 6 months now. In my case I will drive for about 30 minutes to an hour before getting to my destination. If I try starting it in less than 1 hour it will stall. After stallling I usually wait 30 to 45 minutes and it starts right back up. I can hear the fuel pump whining when I try starting it and can smell exhaust fumes so the fuel pump would'nt be the problem.

Thus far I have: flushed all fluids, changed the fuel filter, plugs/cap/wires, igniter (salvaged), rebuilt the starter,and changed the battery.

The previous owner swapped the engine out with a 95 motor but used a first gen distributor from an '89 or '90. I will be replacing the distributor this weekend from an actual 2nd gen and will be replacing a TPS and knock sensor as well, I will keep you posted for results.

....and the stalling is only at start up. It has never stalled while driving or idling at a traffic light.(knock on wood)

So I changed the distributor and my yota still stalls. I've checked for vacuum leaks and can't seem to find anything. Anyone with any ideas on what could cause this stalling issue???
