92 wont idle after head gaskets

Ok, So I had the heads rebuilt on my 4runner. While I was at it it got a new timing belt, idlers, water pump, thermostat, wires, plugs, cap, rotor, and all that Jazz. I have set this thing at TDC and stabbed the distributer about 1000 times!!! But the truck will not idle. :ybrick: I know the timing is correct because it fires right up every time and If I give it some throttle it seems to run very strong but as soon as I back out of the pedal it falls on its face and dies. I checked the distributor via Chiltons and all seemed ok. However when I checked the Volume Air Meter, 2 of the readings are out of spec. One high by about 100 ohms, and the other low. Im hesitant to shell out 200 bucks for another meter only to find out that these meters never fail. The truck seems to run better as it gets hotter but its still sick for sure. I dont get it. I didnt have a meter problem before and the truck has only been ooc for about a week. Im going crazy! TPS resistance check also good.:violin: Help a brotha out for the love of God!!!! Thanks in advance

never had a meter fail... to do the timing put a jumper wire between e1 and te1 terminals on the diagnosis plug... ignition timing should be 10 degrees advanced at normal operating temperature wile idling around 800 rpm's. that's my best guess... i must say though that having a MAF meter go bad would do EXACTLY as your describing... start right up, and run (poorly) with a little throttle, but not idle... it may be worth finding a buddy with a similar 4 runner to let you test this theory by putting his on and see if it runs.

also be sure to check that while working on the motor that one of your wires didnt get brittle and break or get cut... you'd be surprised how often it happens

Im begining to think Im a tooth off on one of the cams. My Chilton manual failed to mention that the belt had marks on it. Matter of fact, compared to the shop manual link I found, the Chiltons is kinda vague. Ive been working but tomorrow I will reinstall the belt. Its acting like a huge vacuum leak. I already replace the air meter with no luck, and I have been through the vacuum diagram 10 times. This is the only thing I havent checked again.
