93Toy's 2013 Trail thread

I don't know if you could really call this a build thread since I don't have a whole lot of big plans for the new ride, but it will be kind of a timeline. I'll also give you my Toyota history leading up to this purchase.

I'm not new to Toyotas or 4Runners, had several over the years and loved them all! Here's a few of the older rides:

1993 3.0 V-6 5 speed with a 4 inch Pro Comp, 33's, etc:

1997 Tacoma 2.7, 5 speed, 4:88's, 35's, 6 inch Trailmaster, 2 inch Roger Brown, etc:

Most recently had two 4Runners. My wife was daily driving a 2000 Sport. No major mods, Sequoia wheels, sliders. AWESOME ride, we had it for 9 years and loved every mile!

The other one was Tyrone. A 1985 4Runner I bought like this:

And built to this:

Then we also have the wifes fun car:

Due to my job (company vehicle), and the fact that we don't run up a lot of miles we decided to go from three vehicles down to two. So we sold the two 4runners and decided to get a new Trail.

So in mid-December we went to Jim Barkley Toyota in Asheville and worked a deal on a 2013 Trail (no KDSS or Entune) and patiently waited for 1/3/13 when it was supposed to arrive. Jan 3 came and went and it wasn't here. Then it was showing an arrival date of 1/25/13. ???? I called my salesman who looked into it and found out it had been damaged at the port and was going to have to make a trip through the body shop before it was delivered. Needless to say, I told him I wanted to find another one.

So we found another Magnetic Gray Trail (this time WITH Entune and KDSS) and put our name on it. It made the trip over, then got stalled a few days at the port because it was pulled at random for quality contol inspection by Toyota. Finally 6 weeks after we agreed to it, it showed up at Jim Barkley Toyota.

2013 Magnetic Gray Trail. Entune, KDSS, tint, and the cargo cover. I also worked into the deal that I wanted the darker finish FJ Cruiser wheels before I took delivery. So when it got here, they did the swap for me. They made sure to reflash the ECU as well to keep the TPMS happy.

I've already installed the Toyota cover/mat for the slide out tray, HuskyLiner Weatherbeaters (correct for the 2013 attachments), and 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Clear Bra goes on Tuesday. I ordered Schrockworks sliders on 12/17, so maybe they will make it here one day and I can get those installed as well.

Anyway, here are a few pics of the day we picked it up. I will get new pics soon that show the new tires, mats, etc. So far I am in LOVE!

If any of you are looking for a Trail (or any 4Runner for that matter) try Jeff Haskins at Jim Barkley Toyota. Even with all of the challenges in finding this and getting one here, we had a very positive buying experience. Jeff is a good guy and he speaks the language.

I'll keep updating as I make changes. Thanks for all of the information I've already read on here. This site is an unbelievable resource!

Thanks for all the info. Thats going to be one nice looking ride. So nice, that it is near identical to what I am looking to get (except stock wheel and tires for now.) Mind me asking what you ended up getting it for?

I'm out of the Raleigh, NC area and looking to shop around out to Jim Barkley's as well.

First post on these forums for me. Finally came out of the shadows.

Look forward to see what more you have to come!

Paid right at $38K before tax, tag and title work. Sticker was $41,413. I was happy with it because:

a) It's exactly what I wanted. Originally I wasn't worried about KDSS because I ASSumed it was for off-road only. Once I heard the on-road benefits, I was sold. As for the Entune/Nav. Originally I didn't care either way because I wasn't afraid to get a base stereo and go aftermarket, but once I priced what aftermarket components I would have to buy and thought about gutting the interior of my brand new Trail, I was happy to go Entune.

b) They worked the wheel swap with me no problem.

c) We sold both 4Runners long before the Trail got here in the middle of a Western North Carolina winter with only a 370Z to drive. Our salesman said if we sold and our new one wasn't here yet he would give us a loaner. For 6 weeks my wife drove a VERY nice 2012 Camry SE with 16K miles on it and all we did was put gas in it. Can't beat that.

Glad you came out of the shadows! Raleigh huh? I spent 7 L-O-N-G months there one time!

Congrats!

Did you have to pay any extra for the fj wheel swap?

Not a dime! Worked the deal then made the request. He asked the owner, got approval, the rest is history!

Keep in mind they had to break down all five tires and wheels! Mainly because mine had Bridgestones and all of the FJ's had Dunlops. Also because I have a steel spare and the FJ had aluminum so we had to keep a full set of TPMS, and then they had to send it to the service department to reflash the ECU. Wheels were in great shape after all of the swapping too!

They took care of me.

3M Clear Bra and Pilot antenna installed.

Waxed it for the first time today. I love this color. A few quick pics in the neighborhood, I was running short on time.

A picture with the 370Z. I always thought the Z looked gray until I parked the Trail next to it!

We've had this thing for about 3 weeks and I absolutely LOVE it so far!

More pics when (or should I say IF) the sliders get here.

Finally got the Shrockworks sliders and got them installed. I'll get some pics pretty soon. Still loving the Trail!

I see the Shrockworks site suggests their special rocker trim. Did you find that needed?

Love pic of your old '93

I think that's only needed for SR5's and Limiteds. Nothing had to be changed on the Trail.

That 93 was a GREAT truck!
