94 Blown Head-gasket

Well I just bought a 94 4 Runner 4x4 V6 3.0l. And It has a blow head gasket. I know your suppose to replace timing belt and water pump every 60,000 miles so I am going to do that as well. But What else should I do to the car while I have the heads off?

Also, I have a 90 Honda and if I buy aftermarket sensors they don't work for the car and it runs like crap and throws a lot of codes. Is the 4 runner the same way? Or can I purchase aftermarket parts?

do the head gasket and torque the head to spec. nothing else really should be done.
get your parts here its the cheapest youll ever find and i have not had one problem with any part i have got. RockAuto Auto Parts

Check for warping. the 3.0's do this a lot and I bet this isn't the first time. You start running with leaky head gaskets for long and you get serious warping.

Since you intend to have the heads off, take a look and maybe have it checked.

Edit: Aftermarket sensors. Some parts can be done cheap, others can't. I get the vibe that aftermarket sensors are made to the same tip top specs that crappy aftermarket companies do for everything... and that doesn't fly with sensitive electronic sensor components that need very tight electrical tolerances. The difference of .05 oems and .1volts is the difference between in spec and fault, and that right there can be eaten by crappy wiring if done ****ty.


So, moral? Sensors are something you should by OEM.
