94 t4r fuel economy

i have a 94 t4r it has the 4 cyl 22 r-e 2.4l 4wd with normal 225 75 15 tires i just did a tune up, oil and filter with lucas air filter plugs wires cap and rotor, it runns great no check engine light or gas leeks but im only getting like 300 kms to 55l of fuel driving a lot of hwy around 100 kph and no offroad tours, myfriend has a 93 pickup with the same motor and gets around 600 on the same amount of fuel i was just wondering what i should do to help my economy

ripping that engine out and getting a 3.4l or strip the emissions down.

If your getting half the mileage of hers i would say there is something seriously wrong.

I get that mileage in the city closer to 425 on the hwy.

Is it lifted? Burning oil?

I have 33" Cepek Crusher tires with serious tread, 5 speed manual and I live at 6575' altitude and I get about 320 miles each 16.5 gallon tank. So if you are getting anything much different you have serious problems.

being lifted should not be an issue. by this point if you don;t know the cause you should go to a well reviewed toyota mechanic and get it looked at before this problem turns into a massive problem.

by nature Toyotas run efficient so you are running abnormally

i am the extreme situation, tire size, altitude and if you are running that poorly dont take too much time waiting to figure things out and continue driving the truck

^I haven't gotten mileage like that since I left Tahoe. Around here (S.F. Bay Area+Traffic) I get closer to 16/18. I remember just 3 years ago getting 19/21 all day long, but remember you're driving around the East/West Shore or on the highway and traffic isn't as big an issue (except July/August) unless the road's closed b/c of accidents/weather.

Best tank ever was West Shore commutes from Tahoma to Truckee daily. These days I get roughly 245-260miles to a tank.

I usally get about 230 to A tank on my 94. But i have a 3.0 so doesnt help much.

How many miles are on the truck? A compression test could tell you alot.

Whens the last time the valves/MAF/TPS were tested?

it dose have a lot of kms 320 000 il try the compression, how do u test the air flow and the tps and whatever elece not lifted either, i was thinking like egr possibly? and dosent burn a drop of oil

Yeah something is wrong.

i'd give a full tune-up, new o2 sensors, check everything else (TPS, etc....)
You should be around 450-500km / 55L... my 89' 3vze 5 speed got 425km / 55L average...

the compression front to back is 175,175,170,160, thats hot compresson with the gas pedal to the floor... how many o2 sensors are on it, i know there is one is that all?, i was driving down the hwy today and the check engine came on for bout 2 mins and then turned off again, i want to get it scanned if it comes on again but nobody has a connector for it.
ps i just did a full tune up plucs wires cap rotor air filter oil change, but i dident do a fuel filter, would that help too?

so the check engine is on again but still no diagnostic computer to hook up to it... is it the port under the hood beside the fuse box you use?
