Hello, Just wanted to jump on here and start a thread with some of my questions.
I have a 4x4 97 4runner, this one actually replaces out 95 2wd 4runner that was totaled (insurance totaled the truck, I bought it back).
After having the 95 for 1.5 years we realized that we needed 4wd, tow hitch, roof rack and a better engine. then the 95 was hit on the passenger rear door and insurance totaled the truck (not our fault and no one hurt :thumb3
. with the $ we bought a 97 with those missing features and we have to say we love the truck.
So now I get to the things that I need input about.
1) out 97 has a bent radio antenna, will the 95 fit? can I swap the whole assembly? or just parts?
2) Driver side door key hole won't turn with the key inserted, the key works everywhere but the drivers door. how should i go about fixing this? WD40 in the hole?
3) tires need to be replaced. I have read that 99+ can fit 265/75r16 with no rub as they changed the springs and 96-98 have weaker springs and will rub. I have noticed that our 97 has had the front springs and shocks replaced, My goal is to run the BF Goodrich All Terrains A/T KO2's, we loved the KO's on our 95 but the rims won't fit the 97's bigger front disks. Will the 97 really rub with the 265/75r16 or should I go with the 245/75r16's to stay close to the stock tire size (265/70r16). I understand the 245's are narrow, and i personally like the wider 265 look (1inch is a big difference for width) this is more of a travel vehicle but will see all off road conditions (family day trips and weekend camping/:fishing:/snow/kayaking) so I'm not sure if I should get the taller wider tire as skinnier is better for snow/pavement but wider is better to 'float' offroad.
4) maintence - I'm a avid believer that there is nothing better than maintaining your vehicle correctly, the timing chain was done @ 155k miles, I bought it at 193k now. It runs great and got 19.9mpg on a 300mile trip, with 10miles off road low in snow (yellow treaded tires) I've read these can get 18 city and 20+ hw... what should I invest in as far as maintence. Oil change is next week from stealership (I think they provide good 'indicators' on their report for things to 'think about')
5) running boards - I don't care about them too much, would I get more ground clearance without them? if not then I'll keep them.
