might wanna get the compressor checked. my t4r does thesame thing, blows air but not cold or anything. got itchecked out today and said i needed to replace it soon because the pulley was shot and could seize my motor. $800:gun4:
Not to be ugly or anything but I think you got ripped.
Worst case scenario.
The compressor locks up, burns AC clutch up. Engine still runs.
The Compressor clutch bearing seizes up. Derails belt. Engine Stills run.
So $800 got you a new compressor and installation plus some Freon. My guess is maybe the dealer?
Now giving the excuse that the pulley is shot would lead me to believe that the bearing might be bad and in that case, it is just to replace the bearing. $25 maybe. If the pulley was completely worn out (maybe they mean clutch) so that might be $150. So where is the rest of the money from the $800 go?
The AC is not a mysterious mystical engineering marvel.
There is a pump.
There is an expansion valve.
There is some Freon.
If you have a leak, fix it.
If the pressure is way to high on the high side and way to low on the low side. The expansion valve is stuck shut. (or clogged orifice tube, but 4runners don't have one). Replace Valve
If the pressure is high on the high side and high ion the low side, then the expansion valve is Stuck open. Replace Valve
If pressure is low on the high side and high on the low side, (and you have the right amount of Freon) , then the compressor is worn out. Replace compressor.
