97 Limited alarm chirps sometimes on arm/disarm

In most cases when I arm/disarm from my remote, there is no chirp. I just verify it is locked/unlocked by looking at the signal lights blinking. But, in some cases when I push the arm/disarm button it does chirp, which I prefer. Any ideas why it only chirps sometimes and how I can set it to chirp all the time?

I just had this happen to me yesterday, it was the first time it didn't beep when locked. I thought I was going crazy, but I"ll have to dig into it now.

My 97 is the same way. I figure it's a old piezo or the relay in the box is going bad.

This happens to me everyday on my 97 LTD. No apparent rhyme or reason either. Maybe 60/40 split on it chirping Vs not chirping. It also will randomly chirp twice and unlock when it's supposed to chirp once and lock; so I always pay close attention to be sure I'm locking it up.

Just one the quirks with these old alarm systems I guess.

I have a 98 SR5 that does the same thing. It randomly decides when it wants to chirp and when it doesn't.

Not worrying about it so long as the doors lock.

i wish my 97 would chirp...i hate having to watch for the 1 blink. Especially if it's bright outside and hard to tell.

Has anyone tried to set the piezo to not chirp, then set it back to chirp? I found this for my 97 alarm system:
RS3000 Toyota Vehicle Intrusion Protection

I'll try it later today and see if this works. If not, I might just enable the Passive Arming System to just automatically lock after 15 seconds after the last door has been closed when the key is removed from the ignition. Peace of mind for the times I think to myself...did I see one blink when I pushed the button.

It will also do different tone chirps especially when unlocking each of the 2 chirps will be a different tone from one another

Darn...didn't work. I was able to turn the passive arming feature on though. It arms after 15 seconds but will not lock the door automatically.

I just removed mine, but it is next to the battery. I can't remember where I saw it for sale though.

Did replacing the piezo solve the problem? I'd like for mine to work again... It worked prior to me doing the timing belt and valve cover gaskets.

My guess is also a defective/worn pezio or relay/wiring. I set mine to pezio "off" 8 months ago and haven't heard it since. Easy/cheap fix I would think.

Are these alarms extremely sensitive? When locked mine will beep if I slap the wiper on the windshield to knock the snow off of it.

If our dogs move around in the 97 after the alarm is set it will go off sometimes. Of coarse when it does they get excited and it becomes more often until you turn off alarm.

Looks like only the glass breakage sensitivity is adjustable.
