I know that these stereo replacements have been discussed somewhat at length, but I'm having trouble figuring mine out.
I have a 98 limited that is currently equipped with the 3CD "cartridge" style changer and tape deck stereo with an external amplifier. The problem is with the connectors. I was hoping to simply bypass the external amp and simply use a newer HU with built in amplifier, but all of the other Toyota units I'm seeing have a different looking connection. The amp connections look like they match up - its the other audio connection on the left that looks different.
I'm probably overthinking it, but what are my options for an OEM HU swap? Is there an adapter that connects the 16pin to 20pin? Do I have to use a HU that is compatible with the current external amp?
Just for comparison, most of the units I see for sale have this setup for connection.
