I'd need more photos to be certain, but it looks pretty good so far. Mileage is a bit high-ish but not a deal breaker. I'd want to be sure they did the 200k timing belt. In the pictures at least it looks really nice.

Btw, I've been keeping an eye on Nashville craigslist for you. I do know a guy with a 2001 sport ed in great condition at 225k if you're interested. It's automatic though.
 
Did they have a rear ac option? I know they have rear heat but the way the system works I find it hard to believe there was an ac option. Anyone else?
 
Looks like a clean truck to me. There should be little to no rust on it if it is a CA car.

Like said above I would like to see more pictures of the truck under the frame etc...

Dude! That would be way cool if it wasn't a huge burden. I'd love to see pics of the interior and undercarriage. Also love to know if they've got maintenance records and such, just a basic checkout to see if it's worth it and maybe get the VIN for a check.

Thanks Brique! I'm really trying to hold out for a 5 speed though, especially if it has a locker on it.

People are asking that for a recon title automatic in the PNW... Sounds like a good deal. but my prices are biased because PNW prices. I wouldn't sell my 5 speed below 7k and would probably ask 8k and get 7500. Not even a locker. does have little bit of mods. (check signature) Kinda funny how prices change drastically.
Oh and 186k miles. TBWP kept up on last 30k miles.
 
IBallEngineer, I called the guy and he said whenever you could come by he'd let you see it. It's a small lot with just a guy or two and he's "by appt only". He did say that they've been getting lots of calls so either he's not or there's something amiss with it. :shrug:

626 221 8566 is his number. I think he said his name was Mike.
 
Before I bought mine I think I spoke to this guy, I don't think it's the same rig, but the last one was clean looking and high miles like this. I never was able to hook up with him, but he told me he needs about an hour notice. I'll try him tomorrow early.
 
He seems negotiable within some reason. Maybe $1000 at most. He knows what he has and only deals in 4runners from 96-02 and tacomas from 98-04. He's expecting another 5spd from Arizona this week but prices his 5spds high because of the rarity. Definitely worth checking out if you want to drive 5-6 of them to compare.

I went and looked at a 80 series for a guy's buddy on the forum. While the truck looked nice from the out side most all of them needed work, not all but most. In the end the 97 LC that I went and looked at had been hit, the body work was shit and they didn't even color sand the truck. It needed shocks, tires, a rear main seal, and other stuff also. I asked him about records and what not and I got "Well it's a Toyota". Yeah pretty much said thank you very much and left. I did a big write up some place hear.

In the end the guy in Glendale dose get some nice things on his lot. All he dose is Toyota's. He seems to think they are worth WAY more than they really are for what you are buying, kinda like the Panda Garage guys in San Diego. In the end it is what you are willing to pay and also fix just like any used car. My 4Runner was not perfect when I got it but with some help from the guys hear and a little time she has come along nicely I think but most would agree.

Anyhow just really look at his stuff!

I saw the ads from the guy in Glendale when I was looking, but I didn't look any of his stuff because it was all priced too high. Hard to miss him on CL because he posts so many vehicles.

Glendale has become an ethnic haven for Armenians and my Armenian friend told me to stay away. Although I did end up buying my 3rd gen in Glendale, from a Vietnamese guy. Goes to show, um, you never can tell!

KBB for a totally clean truck with 100% no mechanical issues is about $2900 Private Party.

He probably paid out $1800 on it for a trade in.
