99 SR5 Auto trans issue... no overdrive

I have a 99 SR5, 4WD, AUTO 3.4 with 210,000 on it. It will not go into overdrive. I have replaced the thermostat with no results. I have a ScanGauge on it monitoring both tranny temp and water temp. Water temps runs 185-190 and tranny temp is in the 125 - 150 range (B&M Cooler on it).

This is my 16 year old daughters car (though I secretly want it) and I don't want her suffering with teh gas mileage or the wear and tear of running at higher RPM's. I also don't want to rebuild or put in a used tranny.

I have searched without much good info other than the Termostat.

Any suggestions or good tranny/T4R folks in the Kansas City area?

I know this may sound ridiculous, but just to be sure . . . you have made sure the over drive button on the lever is pushed in right?

I don't know any good 4Runner mechanics in KC per say...but I do know that John at Pinnacle Auto Sales in Lee's Summit sells a lot of 3rd gen 4Runners, and he's a good guy. He either has a good mechanic that works for him, or he knows one, cause all the stuff he sells is top notch. Worth giving him a call and seeing if he can recommend anyone?

Yes, I have played with the overdrive button. (not a bad ask though

I have also searched the tranny for any loose wires etc. Found nothing.

Thank you for the advice on the dealer in Lee's Summit. I will try that.

Is the check engine light on? Make shure its not throwing any codes you might have a OD solinoid going out. Witch is aculy a realy easy fix.

I realize this is a really old post but did you ever figure out what the problem was? I'm having the same problem but it's intermittent. Most of the time my T4R runs great, shifts like butter. Just curious.
