so i will starrt my build thread here so far what i have done to it

first of its time to tackle the rust






got rid of the old rusted one and piced up a new chrome one ffrom a buddie of mine



When i finished and cleanded up the rust i went out an bought the bushwaker extend-a-fender ones and so far they look pre mean and aggresive and got rid of the SR5

i forgot i had a build thread here so here is some of what i had

Stuff You Need:
1. Can of PlastiDip purchased from Auto Value
2. Tooth Picks
3. Masking Tape
4. Newspaper
5. Q-Tips
6. Rubbing Alcohol, Soap, water
7. Sunny Warm Day
8. Paper Towels

1. Clean around your emblems, Use soap and water if your Toyota is real dirty. Make sure you get down into the cracks and nooks, Dry it off and get back in there with some Q-tip's & Rubbing alcohol or any type of alcohol (but don't drink while you do this hahaha) Get into the cracks again. Again make sure the surface is dry before you even paint.

2. Mask off the area with some masking tape and newspaper in case of overspray.

3. Now you're ready to spray.
4. Make sure you shake that can up and do a test pass on some newspaper so you see how much comes out of the nozzle. From there shoot a thin coat on your emblems.

5. Wait a few minutes and make a darker pass.

6. Then give it 15-20 minutes then apply a second coat. I went and did a 3rd coat.
7. In the time I was waiting for it to dry up a little bit I started to tape up the other side to not waste too much time.

8. Repeat steps 1-6

9. Now let them dry till they are flat black and the glossiness from the wet paint has disappeared, about 30 minutes the can says to wait 1 hour but I decided to be a rebel and do it in 30 minutes instead.

10. . Now peel off the masking tape.... You'll notice the rubber will want to pull off with the tape, that's no problem, just don't go too fast when the rubber breaks and you have to get into the little cracks of the emblems to pull it off.

11. . Now with your fingers, just begin peeling it back. The PlastiDip will peel off your paint no problem and it begins breaking around where the emblem adhere to the car.

12. And now you may have little difficulty to get into the middle areas, just use your tooth picks and pick at it.. It'll just peel off like it did before.
13. I used the tooth pick to kind of cut away at the corners like a knife.

14. The best part is now!! Your done and time to sit back and admire your work you have done!!

so i did my lift here are som pics of the prosses did not have to manty but still some better than none

Lift:
Front
OME 90004 shocks
OME 882 springs

80 series landcruiser shocks and springs

stock ride height

i started with the rear and the rear shocks both of them i snaped the tip cause of rust

next i tried to rig a spring compressor and it worked fine to compress the old spring had enough to clamp them down and slide them out

here is a picture of the old stock 4 runner springs of how much i needed to compress not very much so that was simple

what i decided to do was to show off the 4 runner springs compared to the 80 series Cruiser

so for the new springs i could not use the old system so i went to autovalue and rented the spring compressor and compressed it almost to the max

sorry thats all the pics for the rear now the new height ride

this next picture reminds me of the 70's old school pimp vans with the front end low and the rear lifted hahaha

i have done the Tundra brake upgrade and i am very pleased with the results not more warped shaking car
i have used the 13WL (231mm) calipers they are the larger of the 2 sets and installing it was pretty easy i found a awsome site for the upgrade

next was the pain in the butt i broke couple 2x4's with the bottle jack and the fender wheel well

installed

the lift is done and i decided to have some fast and furious pic and the 240sx almost fits right under

Alright so here we will start off the DIY thread,pretty easy to do nothing hard

tools needed:

-making tape
-any color of paint you would like
-dremel
-cutoff wheel for the dremel
-rubbing alcohol
-paper towels
-tin snips
-auto-body bondo
-file/sandpaper
- time and patience


The difference in the 2 grills stock nothing cut up yet (already taped up so i don't scratch the chrome)

now time to start cutting

all i did was snap off the thin grills off

i used a dremel for this next step and i used a mini cutoff wheel and cut away the thicker parts

notice how i did not cut off the two corner off since the are there to hold the grill in place all i did was trim around to make it look flush

next step was a little bit more trickey as i had to cut as close as i can to the side wall so there will be less sanding to make a flush surface

now on to the bond to fill in the massive hole that has been sanded down all i did was take a piece of tape and from the backside taped so the bodo wont fall thru, it and flipped it and started to bondo. notice where there is almost a bulge looking sale thats where the massive hole was once it dried up i did a quick layer of bondo on the other side to make sure when i sand down it wont appear there

sorry about the crappy bondo job im not a body guy so it wont smear as good as id like it too

i put 2 layers of bondo to make a nice finish

to file it down all i used was a hand file and some fine sand paper

next step i recommend doing sine this was just rubbing alcohol and it striped the old paint off down to the chrome as you can see

after that has been all striped off and clean with wax and grease remover, i went with a gunmetal grey color by dupli-color and sprayed on a few light coats of paint

now to get the mesh i kindly asked my nieboughr if i can borrow some of his mesh he was using to hold on the concrete to the side of his house since he has been renovating and extra mesh left over

the measurements i used for the grill was 6 1/2 x 33 1/2 i gave myself a little extra just in case i just used the tin snips on this part

now remember how i explained how i did not cut the 2 corners off to mount the grill in place the mesh will interfere with it so i just cut out a simple hole so it will wont get in the way

this next step will be a little tricky i lined up the grill and marked where the best place to drill for the zip ties to hold the mesh to the grill,i drilled 6 holes on the upper side and 6 holes on the lower side, as you can see i drilled to the lowest point on the diamond style grill so the zip ties are not noticeable. after that all i did was paint it black.

i zip tied it down made sure that i was happy and everything sat well the with the extra mesh you can cut it off or bend it like how i did so its not in the way

and BAM you can stop at this step and have a clean style grill or you can keep going on and do your own touch the lower picture shows why you cant use the 99+ grill style in the 4Runner as the middle of the chrome had to be cut and with it cut would not look as clean as it should so thats why you should use the 96-98 grill where the chrome dose not exist in the middle

here is a shot of the grill on my truck before and after

for me it was to plain so so i took off the old Toyota logo and screwed it to the new grill

finished product i know i pushed the grill as far back as i could so that the light force light wont interfere with the grill and have to cut the grill so thats why the mesh is further back let me know if i missed something or chime in guys or what you guys have done differently?

Alright so starting from here is the transformation of the 4RUNNER to the 4SURF (Hilux Tire Carrier) So i bought the hatch from Rocky Mountain Imports from Vancouver and they shipped it within a week which i give them A++ for that great guys to keep in contact with they dont BS with you they mean business (Cam & Jon) aswell they totally cut the quarter pannel so i can have the reinforcment for it here are some shots of the hatch. SORRY about the poor pics it was getting dark and phone was dieng so no flash!!

so i noticed that the plugs are diffrentand i suckl at cutting and rewireing so i decided to just swap out the whole harnesses

One wire harness is out time to pull out the runner one and swap

now here is some picture the difference between the re-enforced quarter and the regular 4 runner one the first 2 are the 4 runner then the last one is the surf quarter

The finished product all painted and looks like a true hilux surf looks as it came OEM im super please with the out come and now it is one of a kind Toyota!! Any questions feel free to ask away i have nothing to hide!!

alright so since the OEM bumper is a tin can bumper and the have the large 240 blitz light force mounted i decide to just and some ridged struts underneath to hopefully strength the bumper so the lights dont flicker/rattle i bent the rod to the right length and drilled the holes

Nice work! I'm a huge fan of using true OEM stuff to slightly modify a vehicle. I bet there are many people out there that would expect to find a 4Runner like yours on a dealership lot even after all that work you have done. Those of us "car guys" truly respect your work!

I love your 4runner! I've always loved that Hilux Surf wheel carrier, just never thought it could be added to a 4runner! Wish I could do something like that to mine :crybaby:

Thanks guys I am for sure trying to make this project one of a kind truck. My next mod is I have a 30"LED light bar and then 6 smaller ones to sourrond the roof rack, night wheeling here I come.
