A/C drivers side heat

I'm curious if anyone has experienced this. My drivers side A/C will get stuck in the heat position while the passenger side will adjust from hot to cold just fine.

Last time it magically unstuck itself and returned to AC position, I vowed to never make the drivers side hot again as we live in Florida. Well the girls got cold one morning we all piled in the truck really early and against my better judgement, I warmed up the drivers side. Now it's stuck again.

The system is fully charged with coolant and doesn't leak. It's an 04 limited with dual climate control.

I'm guessing it could be the drivers side air mix servo? Does this servo control this function?

Also curios if there is a way to manually move it by hand. I've tried changing all of the ac settings and can't see it move at all so I'm guessing it's stuck or not getting a signal for whatever reason. No clicking sound either. Also the air will adjust from defrost to upper/lower vents just fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

this is why I hate it when they over design the hell out of shit.

way too many bells and whistles just mean you have a million things that could be the cause of a problem :juggle:

I just had to add Freon to fix mine and noticed if you have even just a little too much Freon it stops cooling which is the first time I ever had a vehicle do that to me. normally if its overcharged it just doesn't cool as well but this is the first one I found actually shuts the compressor off lol
 
yeah, it sounds like the drivers side blend door servo motor has failed.
I highly doubt it can be accessed without removing the entire heater box. which requires removal of the dash first. its a pretty big job.
 
So the air mix servo on the drivers side is located to the right of the gas pedal. Very easy to get to! After starting the 4runner several times and adjusting everything it never moved. Finally I went back out there and decided to give it one more try, but this time when I started the truck, I noticed it was trying to move. I gave the arm a little help by hand it adjusted what looks like about half way. Wah-la! Cold air on the drivers side again.

I'm going to try to pull it out tonight and see if the gears and electrical contact look ok. There are some pretty good write ups where people have had a lot of success flipping the gear inside 180 degrees. I also found this write up about the contacts inside

It's the air mix servo. I just replaced mine and it was easy. Look from the bottom under the driver side dash and towards the heater core and you will see a black little box with white arms that controls the mix. I typed in the Denso number from the servo itself cause if you look at the specific model on the toyota parts website it is very expensive. I got mine for $30 on ebay but it was used and it works fine. From what I remember it was 2-3 screws but let your car cool down, the heater core lines get very hot!

might just need some lube or something (trash) got in there stopping the hinge from moving easy
 
Easy fix for now. Took the air mix servo apart and inspected the gears inside. The grease inside was old and crusty, possibly from dirt and debris. These spots made the gears much harder to turn. Cleaned them up a bit and turned the gear 180. Working like a camp for now!

great to hear it. Its a good thing it was easy to access, as some of them are very difficult.
 
Glad I came across this! I was wondering about this a day or two ago when my passenger vents were frigid and the driver ones were lukewarm...I'll definitely look into it now
 
Driver side blend door actuator 2004 replacement

Looking for some support.

My driver side blend door actuator on 2004 Ltd has been making noises and constant opening and closing. I can see the unit from under the dash to the right of the gas pedal and was hoping for some guidance, direction before I start pulling apart the center console.

What's the best way to get to this unit, center console?

Any advice is appreciated.

Hello, its three screews and a wiring clip, very easy to remove, i am at a loss though. Every one i found to buy doesnt show the arm being part of it and when i tried to remove mine ut broke. Do new ones come with the arm attached or is that a seperate part? Also if it is seperate, does anyone have a part number? Thank you

Did you ever find a part number for the drivers side servo? I haven't been able to find one. Thanks for the help.
