When i sleep in my 4runner i never really have that issue, i just tilt all 4 vents up towards the ceiling at a 45 degree angle and i stay plenty cool. But id love to see how creative you can get. Wonder whats behind that hump in our headliner(probably where the sunroof retracts). The other common sopt for rear a/c is the back of the center console or the b-pillars by the door, but good luck getting that to work and look clean.
Still suprised that level 4 blower speed doesnt keep you cool back there, but i agree nothing replaces that direct air in your face!

What is this rear heat feature? Probably something 96's werent offered with...

My 98 limited doesn't have the rear a/c. I believe it was available for all trim levels but you needed to special order it from the factory. (Please correct me if I am wrong)
But the rear a/c would be a cool thing to have. My buddies always complain how hot it is back there on a sunny day.

+1, dont see why a/c couldnt be directed to it from the factory but im guessing theres good reason, maybe the under dash ducting just wont allow for it.

run the A/C duct to the rear air duct, it should work because the front vents have both heat and A/C, if not than run a vent yourself at the headliner next to where the doors are.

96's had them as an option, I have one in mine.
I have also been trying to do this as well. I live in Arizona so I know that my kids are hot in the back because it takes awhile for myself to cool down in front. Front will eventually be cool but I want to somehow put a vent back there so they have something blowing on them. I thought about running some duct under the headliner. Would splitting a factory duct work or that a bad idea. I don't need actual controls for the rear, just want it to blow when i turn the front on. Any help would be sweet. If I can't find any on it, Im gonna try it myself and I will post pics and stuff and hopefully it works. Alright later

Don't get me wrong, my A/C works great...I just think it would be cool to have some way to route it to the back to even everything out.
I thought about tapping into one of the ducts up front and running a small line to the back under the carpet..(very small)...just to get some type of circulation back there.

The rear heat setup is no help. The air comes from a fan under the passenger seat; it does not come from the front climate control system. It has its own coolant fed heater core to provide the heat.
If I had the problem, I would try two small fans on the B-columns to move cool air to the rear. Plus, the breeze alone would be a big help--you might be able to stay cool at night with windows open and the car stopped. (Aux. battery probably needed to do this for a long time.)

put a sunroof visor on backwards to direct airflow into the cabin! lol:lmao:
i live in the great northwest, i've used my aircon like 5 times in my life, living here. supersoakers filled with ice water are always nice and since youve got leather it's all good!
and another idea runs of the cig lighters, just place it in the back hatch area use that cig lighter socket back there and face it on the backs of the rear passengers heads.

ha no worries man i get you, i was just poking fun at myself for even trying to help in this thread being from washington and all :lol:
i know above all things having happy little kids in the back seat is by ffffaaarrrrrr better then having unhappy hot little ones!:cry2:

What makes you think I missed that? I said "Plus" giving a use for the fans in a different situation.
