I've considered an Fj case, haven't taken the time to look into them. I don't believe I'll have any issues with the dash lights as I'll just be unplugging the tcase and using a manual option. nothing for anything to talk to to find an error (assumption at this point) even gain a toggle switch location inside as I'll be deleting the center diff locker.

4wd shift on the fly or do you have to come to a stop?

I definitely appreciate any advice or help. I have to question the driveline strength on the fj case compared to inchworm or atlas. I also read in your build you plan to go with an atlas at some point? whats your thoughts an plans there?

In my opinion it's the best choice. Yes the twin stick allows you to do 2 wheel low not front/rear. You can purchase it yourself and make the mod yourself. My buddy did mine and he said it was simple. There are several step by step write ups for it. If you do the twin stick mod you have to purchase a heavier spring to keep the levers from popping out. RST sold me his that he installs in all his builds.

As far as I understand the fj cruiser/4Runner transfer cases are the same. Minus we have a stupid switch that fails when mud or water gets in it. All of the wire connections are the same even.

As far as advice I can only share what I've read. My build is not complete yet. But Wyatt and several Tacoma and fjcruiser guys say that are great with no issues.

Originally I thought I would go atlas but after talking to several other guys and the amount it would cost plus cutting up my floor I decided it is a major no go. Changed directions and plan now on the Marlin taco box. That allow me to have lower gears and keep my fj cruiser transfer case. It's a little cheaper too.

Sweet deal, So The wiring difference is: the FJ case has to talk to the ADD in the front axle of the FJ or V6 4runner. when the tcase shifts to 4wd it turns off the ADD, then when the tcase is shifted into 2wd is tells the ADD to turn on.

I don't have the ADD front axle so I'm thinking I wouldn't have anything to wire to. The shift position sensors are just a go/no go for 4wd shift in the electrically actuated cases. I'll unplug the tcase this evening and see if I get any lights. that'll be the determining factor. If I can put a 100% manual case in there it'll be worth the extra dough in my book.

that makes more sense, any reason your going with marlin over inchworm?

I'm considering a curry 1 ton in the rear to get the toyota hubs so I can keep the speed sensors. The Axle swaps are a long way out though. All of these details could change if the right Craigslist add came across my desk lol.

Going Marlin because it's recommended more from the people who have done the SAS on our 4Runner/fj cruiser/Tacoma combo. I tried to buy an elocker guard from them and they failed to mail it for 6 weeks, finally got my money back. So talking myself into buying from them again might be a struggle. As far as axles I picked it was as simple choice. I paid 200 for my rear axle and sold the gears for 125. Plus it high pinion and ford parts are everywhere just in case I brake something. The front axle was another 600.

Found an manual tcase out of a 2012 4runner trail, same as the FJ Tcases. 275, ordered a twin stick kit from frontrange offroad as the kits mentioned at RST are out of stock. Way better than spending 2300 on a "lefty" Thanks for steering me in the right direction buddy!

I'm going to be doing this in the near future, minus the twin stick as I can't see any reason for 2wd lo, but I need that selectable 4wd/2wd!

I don't really need the 2wd lo either, but the twin stick shifts take less room to shift fwd and backward independantly than the J pattern of the single stick.

plus I've gone so long without 2wd I want options f-it! lol

Email Wyatt RST, tell him you need the spring upgrade. With out it you pop out of gear with the twin stick mod. Do a write up as you go. For some reason most people don't know about it here. He also sells a leather boot to make it all look factory.

appreciate the heads up, I plan to wait until the case gets here an inspect everything. I have a feeling Wyatt may need to send me a few other things to. I believe I'm gonna need the worm gear for the speed sensor as this case is coming out of a newer 4runner. I believe it may have the spacer instead of the worm gear. Wouldn't matter if I didn't plan to axle swap later. I've read up on all his threads, sounds like hes got a handle on spare parts for these things. Definitely plan on doing a write up for t4r. I got the rubber boot that comes with the twin sticks like you did, guess that things useless? I had a good thought to use crown royal bottle sacks, sew two together. Maybe I'll just go with what wyatt has haha

Rubber boot keeps heat and water from coming in from below. Yes you need the extra worm gear if you plan on doing an axle swap at some point. It also can be used to correct speedo for larger tires. I've thought about a crown bag too.

I hadn't thought about the throw of the shifter. Good to know for future plans.

I didn't know the worm gear will correct the speedo! So if I put in the fj case and do the correct worm gear while still having ifs it'll fix my speedo? Making sure I'm reading this correctly.

Detailed answer:
you dont select the worm gear, you select the proper speed sensor that plugs in or rides on the worm gear, based on the size tires and gear ratio you have.

this guy plugs into the bottom rear out put flange on the manual tcases. obviously your going to have to do some wire splicing. I haven't followed up on the details of this. The guys that have swapped rear axles and gave up the rear speed senors are using this as a fix

I saw that there but I thought it was only to have a speedo reading when you sas. Never thought to ask Wyatt about it. Thanks for the info.

Oh, I pulled my front driveshaft last spring to replace a u-joint and drive in 2wd for a week. Even with stock gears and 35's I could burn the tires world even trying. Was a wild ride! Lol
