a little offroading

That was in the Squamish Valley. I'm in Vancouver, where are you?

Will

Where in Squamish were you? I tried to access Indian Arm Trail but it was closed then.

As well, I see that your running an aftermarket exhaust. How do you like it?

Not sure the name of the trail, it is popular trail off the Sq Valley Road, not too far from where the road turns to gravel.

Stock exhaust. Maybe you are hearing a chirping sound from the belt. It chirps when it gets wet under there.

thats cool dude. how was the road up? i heard security is bad on the sea to sky with the olympics and what not.

if its in the squamish area could have been part of the mamquam forest service roads. if you were heading east off of squamish valley road it woulda been heading into the alice lake area

It hasn't been different from usual securty wise. On Saturday there were cops everywhere nailing people for speeding, but otherwise like usual. The past weekends before that was totally the usual. I'm in the Northwest Territoires now, but when I get back in March, we should go back and explore more. I didn't puch it too hard since I was alone and didn't feel like having to spend hours diging myself out of the mud (which I have done previously). Lots of good driving in the Elaho Valley as well.

I live in Burnaby. I'm pretty new to offroading but would love to try trails like that.

harrison FSR, flourence FSR, and vedder mountain are near you and worth exploring. they're all fairly stocker friendly but it doesnt hurt to go with a buddy and a recovery strap :D

eagle ridge is in poco so its fairly close to you but it could be gated. dunno whats going on there but worth checking out. :D

Chris (CJ),

I've seen this compilation of Greg's before, great stuff!, but how applicable is all of it to newer vehicles, say post '05? His collection was posted in mid-'04 and it looks like most of it refers to earlier 4th Gen 4Runners.

Can I expect all of that information to hold true to my 2008 SR5? I've seen JA's rundown on enhancements/upgrades/etc to the 4Runner line through the years but, for example, is the A-TRAC of 2001 the same as of 2008? Just trying to figure out if I need to supplement some of these great, albeit older, threads when applying the reading to my vehicle.

Thanks!

It's 100% valid with virtually no changes.

The only changes I can think of are: 1) The addition of a VSC off switch beginning in '08. This is really nice and many of us have modded this type of switch into our older 4Runners. It allows the Torsen diff to diff, the ATRAC to ATRAC but the power robbing aspect of the TRAC/VSC system is disabled. 2) Beginning in '03 the ATRAC function was improved compared with the '01-'02 but the theory of operation is identical. 3) IIRC the '09 TE and the '10TE have an enhanced, more aggressive ATRAC mode availible in low-range. (Exact same theory of operation just different software).

Does that help?

I was out mucking around last week. I was going up a very muddy uphill in 4hi non locked. Everything was beeping and I could hear the brakes. Is this Atrac or VSC? How can I tell the difference?

Here's a pic

If you're still moving and applying steady throttle it's most likely ATRAC.

VSC will cut the throttle, if you feel power loss it's VSC. If the center diff is locked, VSC is disabled.
