A pleasent visit to the tire shop

I have a set of Konig Countersteer X on order and after hearing of some of the issues getting them properly balanced I decided to look around for a good tire shop to mount and balance.

The first shop I went to was a local Discount Tire and as soon as I mentioned lug-centric balancing, he asked if I had a Toyota and said "no problem". I then asked if they were familiar with the proper way to tighten the tapered lugs and he replied, "you mean acorns, no problem" (the correct term). When I asked if he could do a run-out check of the new rims, once again he replied in the positive. He then, without asking, gave me a tour of the work area and pointed out the special equipment they have for the above, including a balancing machine the only use for lug-centric rims and the 15-20 adapters they have for all the different patterns that are just for it.

We then worked up a quote for new tires, run-out test of the rims, transferring the TPMS sensors, mounting, siping and balancing. He doesn't stock the tires and will need about 1wk to get them in. It's been awhile since I bought new tires so I was shocked but searching the web showed his prices to be fair.

So... It looks like I've found a tire shop.

My local Discount Tires couldn't properly balance my 265/70/17C Duratracs on my ATX Mojave's after a couple of tries. Had to take it to a shop with the bestest Hunter Road Force, and had to index one tire.

If they had to index a tire, either the tire or rim (maybe even both) are off. That's why I'm going to have them do a run-out check of the rims so I will know where I'm starting from.

Yes! The new Lafayette, CO Discount Tire and the guys there are awesome. They treat you right, will give you a very competitive price, have the proper equipment, and know their installs.

They have been open for maybe 5 months, they are a mile away from my house and I'm diggin' it.

In November they mounted up some specific snows that they ordered for me for my Outback.

Then they stepped it up two days ago by mounting the Cooper AT/3 in a 275/70/17 on TRD rims for my brand new 2012 LE T4R. I ordered them on a Thursday, they had them in on Monday, the same day I took delivery on the T4R. They took the time to mount and balance them correctly... looks rides performs great...

I have been looking at pictures of all your T4R's for months... It feels nice that I finally have some of my own to post.

GrantK be glad to pitch in on that. Hmm, problem is you may influence me to go in a similar direction... and that takes more Johnny. Gotta keep telling myself one step at a time... one step at a time.

@Colorado Frosty - Those are the tires I am going to get. What is your initial impression? Why did you go with a 275? Can you post full side pics?
Nevermind. I just looked at the other thread where you answered my questions. Thanks an let me know how those tires do.
