A question about the 4.7 and timing belt.

Are the 2005 4.7 engine a non interference engine? In other words, if the timing belt breaks, will the valve damage occur?

Yes. Never heard of one breaking though. MFG recommends 90k, but I think most go around 100k and they still end up being in very good condition. Did my '04 at 100k and changed water pump, idler pully etc. It still was inperfect condition, but worth doing.

No, it is not a non interference motor, it is a interference motor. Yes valve damage will occur if the belt snaps.

Belts don't "visually" age, they just snap when they want to.

i had mine replaced at 123k. Belt looked brand new.

Yeah, they have a mind of their own.. But on the serious side, what I've seen/heard on the 4th gen side of things, it's more of a water pump seepage/ leaking than a timing belt snap.. But yes, bent/damaged valves will occur.

This is the part where I miss the 3.slow and the 3.4L engines :thumb:

I the 4th gen v8 power, and comfort though.
