Little background on me. Long time forum lurker, first time feeling the need to actually ask something

I'm in the Army stationed in the Netherlands (yea it is awesome). I had a 2006 Tacoma TRD before I came over here. Everyone said it would be too damn big here, so I sold it for pennies. Get here and there are all kinds of light duty trucks.

So my three years here are coming to an end. I've sold my 2011 MINI JCW that I have been tooling around Europe in and want to get back to Toyota land.

I've been talking to a dealer back near my parents in the midwest that has a 2012 Trail that has nav/entune, back up camera, slide out rear cargo, keyless entry (not sure if this is standard) and he is willing to sell it for 37,500.

I've been looking like crazy for a Trail and this seems to be the best bet right now. Am I crazy to jump on this one or should I try and get another 500 or more knocked off before I bite this bullet.

Really I'm just looking for some reassurance that I'm not throwing money away.

First...thank you for your service.

Second...you can try to haggle and get money knocked off, no harm in that, or they sell it out from under you to someone who's willing to pay asking price. TE's are hard to find/get nowadays.

Leaving here to go to Monterey California then off to Eglin AF Base in Florida... well after jump school.

I think I'm going to my CU on Monday then and get all the paperwork started. Probably going to finance like 20k or so.

The salesman did tell me that Toyota is doing 1.9% on 4runners right now. That is pretty tempting.

Been to both of those places, used to live in Carmel CA, Also lived in St. Pete for a while....Went and did some "training" there in Eglin...

Their rates when it comes to car loans aren't really too competitive last I knew, haven't looked into it in more then a couple of years.

I do love USAA though. I have my checking/savings with them a long with all insurance.

They also have a great mutual fund at no fee really.

Is that an out the door price if so jump all over it. Another thing I'm not sure it you are financing or not but if you are Toyota offers a $1000 off for military if you finance through them and they beat my normal banks interest rate by a quarter of a percent. So in short thats not a bad deal and if you do take that price and still need to pay taxes with the discount thats not really that bad, like the others said haggle you can get far! Oh make sure it has KDSS!!!!!!!!!
 
USAA is great on a lot of things, especially insurance, but interest rates on car loans is something they fall short on for some reason.
 
I would offer that price, but only if they swap out those nasty OEM tires NOW! Of course, that swap out is inculded in the price.......be safe bud.
 
Keep in mind that Toyota doesn't sell the Trail Edition in the midwest. It's possible the dealer was able to get one but they are surely charging a premium. Do they actually have one in stock or on order (cause the on order ones tend to evaporate)?

I live in the St. Louis area and ended up getting mine from Denver, where TEs are sold. The price was so much lower than what the local dealers could do that I had it shipped to my door and still saved money.

BTW - Thanks for your service to our country. Most of us really appreciate it.
 
The dealer is up in MN. They actually have it in stock. Have seen pictures and the spec sheet. The dealership is also offering me an additional 500$ rebate for being military.

On monday I'm going to fill out the credit app for Toyota and see if my 760 and my wifes over 800 is good enough for their 1.9%.

I did skip over that it has the back up camera in the rear-view mirror. I thought with the NAV that the image is shown on that?

What dealership did you use in Denver? I have some friends out there so they could check out the any Trails that are there. Do you have a salesman/dealer that you would recommend?

When someone says Thanks for serving, it is hard to respond. There really is nothing to thank.

I wouldn't change what I do for a living and am glad that I chose a career that only 1% of the population will do :)

I'm just looking forward to getting back stateside. I've had enough of these Dutch people and their niceness! :repuke:
 
I just had a similar experience in buying a 4-runner overseas. For financing you might want to look into Navy Federal Credit Union as well. I'm Air Force and for 20K financing they gave me a 1.79 percent APR which they approved over the phone and sent me the check in the mail the next day. Just a warning though if you have too many agencies pull your credit report it will start to drop after the third inquiry I think.

Sorry to hear you got bad advice about bringing your truck over. I'm stationed in Germany and there's several new-model tacomas driving around here (in addition to my 99). I do agree that small cars are very helpful when touring but most guys just buy a used car when they get here.

Good luck with your runner dude. I just started driving my 2011 limited and I absolutely love it.
 
Buy one of these over there and take it with you:

Land Cruiser. Stap in de legende

Get the tech package.

Just double-check the importing of diesels into the US - that toyota one is cleaner than just about anything they sell here, but obviously the right bribes^H^H^H^H^H^H^H fees to three letter agencies that keep us safe here have not been paid.
 
I looked into one of those as well. They seem to be about the size of a 3rd gen (a plus for me) but I couldn't find any solid answers about importing them other than the obvious "expect to pay more" answer. That's why I ended up just buying US spec with our gas engines and poor fuel economy.
