Sooooooo I went to my local dealership today (Toyota of Kirkland) and brought my copies of the recall and they looked it up on their computers and I found out the fix has already been done on my 4Runner. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They replaced my recalled springs in '02 with springs that need to be recalled. Man I'm pissed. Can I argue that at all? I don't feel like I should be paying to replace my springs.

Hey Steve, I work for a local(to you) dealership as a service advisor, once the recall has been done, the liability of the replacment ends. I also have this issue with my 4runner, and they were replaced and it still sags

I got this junk done. It is a 2wd.. It might not bottom out on the axle now, but I put some quick struts on the front and I'm always driving uphill.

If I get some 99 springs for a 4wd, wouldn't they be 2" taller? And the 16" wheel option is another inch? I wanna be able to throw some sandbags in the rear and still be able to use the rearview mirror. I can already see the cargo lamp in the rearview and there is no weight in the back.

i think this might have just happened to me as well! WTF?!?! The truck wasnt sagging at all, they said there was arecall on the springs, and now that they've been replaced it sags in back!!! wtf?!?!?! should i take it back? what can i do to get this fixed them? i have a feeling they are gonna try to bs me and say thats how it should be in back or something. im pissed.

I must be the one lucky guy; my vehicle doesn't sag at all. I'm sure if we loaded it up with stuff it would, but I've been looking around, and noticed that yeah, there ARE a ton of '00 4Runners that sag ridiculously.

For anyone who is experiencing the rear sag, I fully recommend the OME 906 rear springs. Provide a slight rake with the '99 tall fronts, don't sag even fully loaded, and they still ride nice and work with factory struts.

I had a '96 and put med duty ome spring/shock on. They were FANTASTIC. Of course I had driven around a long time with saggy butt springs and worn out shocks... That was AFTER the factory replaced or "fixed" rear springs...

When I was looking into putting LC coils in the rear of my 2nd gen I found that LC coils from the front of a 80 series landcruiser can be used to lift the rear of 3rd gen 4 runners. You might try checking that out. I got that from the yotatech site. ih8mud would be a good place to check for info also.

widely known fact. Its also widely known that they give 4"+ of lift..

Quick Question

If I wanted to get some new rear springs that would enable me to carry weight in the rear of my '02 better, what would you guys recommend? As it stands now, when loaded, my '02 sags like crazy.

Could I simply add new springs without changing the shocks or the panhard bar?

I've got the opposite problem..my '02 rear sits up a lot higher than the front. every 4runner i pass by i say, why isn't mine level like that?? i know others are 2wd like mine, but mine's the only one Ive seen with such an extreme height to the back end....what can I do?

Replace your rear coil springs with Old Man Emu 891's (model number). I just put them on my 02 and the improvement in ride and handling is great. I had done a 2.5"lift and starting noticing that the rear was slightly lower than the front, due to the saggy springs. I replaced the shocks all the way around, and the new strut shocks on the front lifted it up even more. Then it was suggested to me not to replace the rear shocks unless you replace the rear springs at the same time. So, I bought the rear springs from Old Man Emu ($150 for the pair), and the rear now rises above the front slightly, giving me the profile I wanted. If you don't currently have a lift, make sure you install some spacers on your front at the same time, if you go with the OME rear coils.

Yes, you can. 2" is the most you would get, and some get slightly less than that. In fact, thats what a lot of people do, use stock shocks, or the Bilstein HDs (which are same lenght as stock).

Get the OME 906s. It will take away the sag, you can use the stock shocks and panhard bar. They won;t sag when loaded...I towed the pontoon boat last weekn and they didn't budge an inch.

I see this is an old thread but an important one! I have a 98 SR5 4x4 and have some rear sag, but as the thread goes, us Canadians seem to be left out. My question may be off thread topic, but maybe a member here can provide an opinion: I do some 4x4'ing but the true demand I have for my 4Runner is towing my sportboat. I have significant rear sag with the boat hooked up and someone suggested rear Firestone air bags if I have no desire to lift. Can anyone comment?

You seem to have the answer I'm looking for. I tow my sportboat (and sag then) and do some infrequent 4x4'ing but don't want to have the street ride stiffer than it is now... millerrad1651 have you found much of a change in ride quality with the 906's? With that, did you do any changes to the front end?
