Been over 10 years here but I had a 5th gen before and have a 3rd gen since 2015. I don't think the forum is dying though. Over the years, more and more of the problems are solved and questions answered, so more info gets quickly accessible via a search. And yes for sure, more units rust-out. I'd call it a natural slowing of the flow, to be more positive.

Being positive is good, but I'm a realist. This forum had WAY more active members a few years ago and there was just a ton of discussion happening. It was much more interesting and rewarding to be a part of.

Back in the day when I posted a new video on this forum, there was quite a bit of interest and discussion every time. Now it's quiet like going to a matinee movie on a Monday compared to going to a movie on Friday or Saturday night.

I still show up here to contribute, but I get more bang for my time on Facebook. There's just way more activity on social media and I can reach more people with my videos posting on Toyota Enthusiast Facebook pages.

Welcome Back man! I missed that you'd moved to AZ. Welcome to the desert too.

The forum is still around, but much less active than it used to be. Part that I really miss is the local stuff. We used to do a lot of group runs, but I haven't seen anything since before covid.

I think most people moved to facebook groups, but that excludes me, so that's just a guess.

I see a lot of groups in lifelong [Facebook] I personally don't use that because of what it is. Is a Darpa program called lifelong that went dead the day Facebook went full public. Its how the intelligence agencies track people tell them all information for free.

The forums are just forums used to share information to the users, nothing more.

All the information Facebook users ask is in here. I tried to show them that but gave up.

If folks would like their privacy they would completely stay off Facebook, Instagram and Tik tok because they all are for tye sane thing. Tok tok is just the Chinese intelligence gathering. :/

Oh well folks will do what they wish. I personally like the forums myself..

I agree. I've only been here for 3 years and the activity has dropped considerably. While there's still a good number of members, the vast majority are only semi-active for one reason or another. Those that frequent the forum regularly/often are made up of a small handful of us that's maybe a quarter in size compared to just a few years ago.
Doesn't help we lost some damn good members of the community like Nick :rip:

Agreed. I'm glad that we heard about Nick. Makes you wonder about other people that have just dropped off the map.

I wonder about DirtCo sometimes. I really enjoyed following his builds.

Yup. I joined back in 01/2015 and still pop in occasionally. I rolled my original 2002. I got a replacement 2002 and swapped most everything over. Last year I picked up a 2022 Taco that I've slowly been treating to a mild build. I still have the 4Runner. I remember all the old names and associated vehicles. I spent way too much time here back when I first joined. It is still one of the better forums out there. Tacomaworld can be a mixed bag. lol. Good to see people are still around!

I have stumbled on and off for a couple years now but have never really participated in the chats just read through for advice/ torque specs. I'm still around as well. I remember you psraff. I still haven't made it to AK, but I'm hoping to one day. Only state I haven't been to yet, and the only non island state my 3rd gen hasn't been to either.

Car forums in general are dying and it's unfortunate. Instead of having detailed write ups and good resources via forums we have people posting stupid questions to Facebook, Reddit, etc. And half the time the answers they get are even stupider or just flat out wrong.

All of us have probably gotten more caught up in life, etc. as well over the years. I do miss logging on here and seeing all the various build updates. I'm guilty of not updating my own thread too though.

The archaic interface for this forum doesn't help either...

I was on a FB Group for 4Runners in AZ to help research where I wanted to move to. Some good people on there. But yes, I deactivated my FB account a long time ago. Best thing ever.

Whenever I take the 4Runner into town, I see people drive by and nod in approval. So that still feels good since I've barely driven it for several years. There are a lot of 4Runners around here. I would like to find a local group, but I won't get back on FB to achieve that.

I see what you mean. I'm glad people are (hopefully) spending more time with friends, family and the outdoors.... But I know I had some decent acquaintances on here as well. Never met any in person though. Kind of like a second family.

As for the stupid stuff... LOL I know what you mean. I'm pretty much a total recluse to everyone and everything. I just can't deal with it anymore. If I do meet people, I'm very reserved and limit my time. It's healthier for me.

Yeah, I'm on the 'other' site more often these days. This site is very clunky and slow, both mobile and desktop, and is littered with ads. The other one is much easier to navigate and there seems to be more activity. People were complaining here years ago, and T4R just doesn't seem to want to invest anything.

I may just make a dumbed down profile so I can find local groups... Hope to stay off all the BS. Not that I have a lot of time right now. I'm still investing heavily in making my property how I want it so I can actually sit back and relax.

You are right, this site seems to be a lot slower than it used to be. I'll stick around though, I am seeing a few of the old timers on here.
