AC Evaporator 2003

My A/C recently started leaking from the condensate line. (Rapidly, as in drained within a day. Blows cold if its recharged until the freon drains out.) My mechanic has it all taken apart for the last few days trying to get the entire dash out to access the evaporator we suspect is the problem. Is there an easier way that anyone is aware of? Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

Well in case anyone ever has this problem in the future, it was definitely the evaporator, and there's no easy way to get to it. The whole dash has to come out. It took my mechanic about 20 hours of work to get to. And now I have a hole in my dash above my radio...which is not OK. So I might be car shopping again. I'm sad.
