Accuracy of the MPG gauge

For those of you seeing variance in your readings, do you fill up at the same stations all the time? Do you squeeze the pump multiple times when you fill up (after the pump clicks off)? So far, mine has been within .5mpg on the 3 fillups. I'll be filling up again tomorrow on my way home, so I'll have a 4th tank of gas to compare. This one was mostly interstate, highway, and offroading/logging roads. It'll be interesting to see how it does.

Some variance between gauge and manual calculation...

Gauge : 18.5
Manual Calculation: 19.3

These numbers are from my 2nd tank. I reset the gauge with each fill-up. Driving style: 65%/35% (city/hwy) and I try to drive in ECO as much as I can. I rarely put the hammer down.

I have less than 1000 miles on the Limited.

I'm half way through my 3rd tank and the gauge is currently reading 18.3 (similar driving as above).

Never thought I would see a thread on gas mileage on the T4R site! Wow, pretty impressive you take your own gas mileage records for a 4runner. It sounds like you may tend towards a hypermiler. Not that that is a bad thing, just seems like an odd vehicle choice for keeping gas mileage records.

Mine is averaging about 18.5 on my first tank according to the computer.

Some people track their mileage to help identify if there is an issue with the vehicle. If it suddenly drops then you expect an issue unless you altered your driving / driving conditions for that tank of gas. If there was an issue with the vehicle it could also not be picked up by the electronic system.........

I don't know the OP just saying this is what I have done in the past and why

My mpg gauge must be terrible because it keeps giving it to me in liters/100 KM.

Swapped out the OEM tires for BFG AT's stock size. Running at 45psi and I'm running at a constant 15.6 mpg. I commute ~20 miles each way to work and then actual city driving ~10-15 miles a day.

Checked mine once and it was very close, maybe a tenth or two off.

When I put the BFG's on I went from 19.5 to 18.8... I was pretty damn surprised, but I regret NOTHING!

Wow, what size tire and what psi are you running. I've been at 15.5 since day one, My tires were swapped out 10 minutes after buying mine so I have no previous reference.

Just filled up again after a fairly even split of city and highway driving. My calculations say 19.58 and the 4Runner gauge says 19.40. That's been about the norm as I have usually kept track since I bought my truck. Just rolled over to 5,000 miles yesterday.
