Addco Sway Bars: reviews please

dude just buy the new rubber Toyota bushings.

they are like $10-ish each and I just bought new ones for my rig.

Trust me though, there is no significant reason to pull out your factory sway bar and replace it with an aftermarket.

I think maybe the guys who say it won't make a difference have not tried aftermarket sway bars and do not realize the dramatic improvement they can make - adduce is a quality company that has been around forever and a day.

IF they are having trouble supplying product nowadays that is not a good thing so maybe make sure you can actually get them first.

I actually think about buying them (with disconnects) almost every time I drive my truck.

You run an addico bar?

From the guy running addico bars... significant reduction in body roll. With aftermarket CO I can live without the front on. They do flatten out the ride though significantly with tundra/oe springs. Comments on strength of OE are misguided. Its about torsional stiffness, which comes from a larger polar moment with a larger diameter bar.

in your case were you running the stock sway bar (vs no sway bar) setup when you upgraded to aftermarket?

I just don't see how it could be that much of a gain over stock. I've run the stock sway bar and it works great at reducing body roll.

I've taken the stock off and put it on many times and the thing is a beast and it does not appear to me to be flexible at all.

In fact looking at the setup and taking it apart I'm pretty convinced the OEM brackets would sheer off before the stock sway bar bent or failed.

I'm glad it worked out for you though and I'd like to hear more from others who noticed a big gain over their existing stock sway bar.

I was running oe bars and oe springs. I put the f/r addico bars with oe springs, also ran f/f with tundra fronts and new oe rears. Now running no bar and c/o up front, newish fj coils and addico rear.

Think about the loading on the U shapped bar sway bar. Two opposing point loads when the car rolls, the center of the bar has to twist to allow the deflection at the tips of the U. That's why it's more about moment than anything. The mounts can be relatively light because the real load in the bar is the torsion. Now there is some load in the mounts, but you can get a sense of the load by the flimsy attachments to the chassis.

No doubt bushings help and a good 1st step is to replace 10/15 year old bushings and see if that gets the driver enough of the way there.

Hey guys I haven't heard anyone mention added weight here. I'm going through prothane bushings like no tomorrow using drz end links. I snapped all the OEM ones I had because I'm fairly heavy..All steel bumpers f+r plus a rtt. I weighed in at 5200lbs on the scale and I'm just taking a shot in the dark here in hopes that these bars can help. Would this be worthwhile?

Also, I am lifted.. I did however order some kings custom valved for my weight/setup. I'm about 11 months out on. My wait time though. Any help would be great.

You'll go through MORE end link bushings with stiffer bars and you will lose articulation off road.

The Addco bars are good/great for the street but no something you want offroad. I disconnect my front whenever I'm goin to be offroad...

I had my ADDCO sway bars installed from the previous owner when it was in stock form. I kept it on after putting on the lift and it worked great, mostly because I put a lot of weight on it and it prevented the body roll. It’s a great product and it works.

Is the bar 'level' with the bushings at ride height? You may also be overtightening the nut on the end link (not sure if it has a hard stop or not - can't remember). The bushings shouldn't be totally squished at ride height...

I had the same thing after my 1st outing, until I made longer and stronger end links. After I built the aftermarket end links, I never disconnected them and it flexed well. The trick is to match what ever you build at the same quality and the weak points will fail and stronger upgrades will follow.

That's actually what I've been using. I'm on my second set of bushings. After taking it all apart I can see that the bottom bushing has taken form. Just going to buy the bar, I'll definitely be considering modifying some end links to take on the use after seeing the picture above.

What kind of endlink design did you come up with? I called Addco and they told me that the bar comes with an adapter that changes how the end links mount up.
