Added another 12V socket

Nice mod, although I installed it the same way and my foot keeps hitting the back of the outlet as Im driving...might have to try a different spot.

Great mod though!


ETA: After tinkering a bit, I angled the mount towards the center console, and now its even less noticeable and it doesnt get in my way. In doesnt look great in the pic, but from the drivers seat you almost have to be looking for it to see it.

Did some research on this and the answer is actually pretty simple yet time consuming.
There is obviously a compatability issue between IE8 (and later) vs. prior IE versions. Need to replace the pictures using the latest browser.
Found some time today so I editted the posts and reloaded all the pictures. Need to do this with all my previous posts. (I'll be selective and only do any that have recent activity.)
 
hoping not to be an annoyance to anyone but...

would someone mind walking me through this? i am just starting to work on my car with little fixits here and there, and this is something that i would like to do. i am ok with everything except the crimped wire and power supply into the fuse box. how and what wires would you crimp? how do i ensure constant power to that unit without drawing too much power elsewhere?

my apologies...but wasn't an electrical engineering major in college! thanks!!!

By "Crimped the 2 red wires together" I meant connected the red wire from the new socket to the blue crimp connector on the end of the red wire from the Add-A-Circuit.
The power supply into the fuse box is straight forward as per the picture in the 5th post. Pull the blue 15A Power Outlet fuse out and insert it into the primary slot on the Add-A-Circuit. Insert the Add-A-Circuit into the fuse box where you initially pulled the Power Outlet fuse. Make sure the power outlets work. Then add a 10A red fuse into the secondary slot to power the new socket.
Sorry but not trying to insult if I over simplified. Hope this helps.

Per the picture, can I add this to any 15amp placement in the fuse box? You mentioned that you modded the 12v for constant power source and didn't know if that makes a difference or not?

Yes, you can add it to any circuit but it won't be constantly on. I specifically added it to the Power Outlet circuit so that it would be constantly on.
 
Finally got around to doing this...so awesome. Thanks for all the help.

Is there anyway to add a circuit to turn this on and off like the AC 115v button? I'd like to mount this in the console and don't need it on all the time...would love to be able to switch it off when not needed.

Yes, you'll need to do the ad-a-circuit so that it has a separate fuse and you can wire a switch into the line so you can determine when you want it on/off.
 
I have another electrical question...

Does any 12v adaptor that is wired for ignition only always have power goin to it, even when something is not plugged in? And...if something is plugged into it, like a car charger for a phone, but the phone is not plugged in, Does that draw the same, less or more power than if there was nothing connected to the 12v plug?

Added 12v adapter in back and front to Add a Circuit

I did something similiar.

1. Added 2 West Marine 12v adapter that are ALWAYS ON power to the rear, next to the one that is switched. Just like in the pic.
2. Ran the 14ga wire all the way to the left side fuse panel
3. Used a add a circuit to add the fusing for the run.
4. Added another 12v just below the ign. key about 8-9" or so.. looks real clean. The West marine adapters look great. This one is also always on .. too.
5. earlier i did the fuse block relay jumper

Just wanted to thank y'all for all the write ups and guides. I just added an extra 12v socket today using this guide. Only difference was I put it on the CIG 10A fuse since it wasn't in use (didn't want to shell out for the smokers kit).
