Added some new lights

So we all know that the stock reverse/back up lights s@#* donkey balls. And since I've gotten my windows tinted, I can't see anything when I back up. My original plan was to install some auxillaries in a spoiler, but the angles would not work. So instead, I mounted them in my bumper and wired them to the stock reverse lights. They are 2" 9LED lights, so they don't draw much power...and so far they do pretty well.

One hole drilled...used 2 1/8" hole saw...

They work...I just tapped into power and ground that go to stock light

Not the most technical mod, but these will work until I get LED tails...

That looks really sweet! what lights did you use?

Thanks. It was a pretty cheap project. The lights are 2" 9LED back up lights I bought off Amazon for $25 bucks or so...They come with the grommets, but I trimmed the top a little so they would sit more flush. These are nice because you can give a little angle when setting the lights in the grommets, but they're still pretty secure. I also had to add a few feet of 16 gauge wire to reach the stock lights. And a 2 1/8 hole saw is the perfect size to cut the hole.

Here is a side pic, you can see that they sit pretty flush...

I haven't tried them myself but I hear fullylitLED's has some really bright back up light replacements.

I didn't even look there...I plan to get full LED tails someday, and I noticed this morning one of my license plate lights is out, so I may be giving them a call...thanks for the heads up.

Nice, i was planning to do something similar to this but wit the larger trailer lights but havent gotten to it since my other cheap lights work...

Looks good man! I like how that turned out! Aside from Blcktpgsr's Rear Mounted Piaa lights, these have to be my favorite aftermarket set up! :)

Thanks. Its nice to be able to do cheap things here and there. Between work, grad school, and wedding planning I need to get away! I like his setup too, and when I finally get around to doing the satoshi, I want to mount some lights like he did. Never any shortage of ideas around here thats for sure.

Looks clean, nice work. Reminds me of BigFishAllDay's fog light project. Throwing some LED's in the taillights you have would set it off nicely IMO.

What color are those LEDs? They look blue in the pictures.

Any pictures of the actual light output? Ex: picture of the ground behind 4Runner.

I'm pretty sure they're just white, at least that's what the ad for them said. I think they look that way compared to the old yellowed stock lights. I don't have a pic of output yet, but I'll try to get one tonight after class when it's dark.

dude that looks awesome, we really need to meet up sometime... I just swapped out my reverse lights with some led and OMG they are sooooooo bright!

Thanks. Ya one of these days it'll work out. I just bought some TRD struts so maybe we can put those on, and we can install yours when they're ready...always better with some help. I'll eventually get some LED tails, and I can imagine how much better they'll be.

Nice and original! Hate to "bite" on your idea, but I like it so much, I may do this to mine.
Thanks man...and no worries. Thats why we put up pics and links, just to share ideas. I've gotten tons from others, and am more than welcome to share mine.

I tried to take some pics of the illumination...kinda hard to show...but they really do help a lot...

I'm not sure if I helped inspire this project or not, but I can tell you that we are on the same wavelength regarding this idea. After I finished my fogs I started thinking of a way to integrate some backup lights into the rear bumper.

I like your execution... very clean. You should take some pictures of the backside so guys can see how you mounted/attached the lights to the bumper. I'd also like to see a picture from say 10 or 15 feet back that shows the overall look of the rear end w/the lights.

:bravo: Nice work.

Awesome, unique mod. I especially like that you tied it into the rev light. Great work.

I added some rear fog lights under my bumper two months ago and have been happy.
