Advice needed from 3rd gen owners, looking buy one on this Sat.

I currently have a 4th gen 03 v8.

i found a 2001 limited with 180k for sale. well it found me, for $2250. long story

need to know is it worth it? problems to budget in etc.

big $$ question. if i buy it will be able to flip it if i dont want to be stuck with it.

its paint is faded and its dirty as all hell inside. its tan.

If the front suspension arms are that rusty, chances are that the insides of the frame rails are rusted through where the lower control arms attach to the frame.

I would be concerned as to what is leaking onto the front skid plate. if tires are good and everything works I would think you could clean it up and do some minor maintenance and make a profit. could you get it for $2k, it would be a steal.

For $2k I'm willing to deal with more than say an asking price of $4k+. It's gonna have it's issues. I noticed it only has one of the front skid plate bolts. Maybe the previous owner lost them? Maybe he leaves them off for marginally quicker oil changes? That could be the source of the fluid on the skid plate, esp. since there's a lot more on the driver's side.
Check where that fluid is coming/ was coming from.
How's it run?

Motor oil doesn't leak when being drained from the oil pan in that direction when the skid pan is not removed and of course non at all if removed. Its something else, perhaps leaking VCs, I'd check under the hood.

But overall drive it, check for the milkshake issue (if there and/or if repaired), check CELs (even if non present on dash), check all fluids (looking for metal bits and/or water). But yeah good price, offer 1850...

A 2001 Limited is worth that price just in parts, easily. Buy it!!

Dude got seller remorse. He wants more money now. He's at 2900 when he agreed on 2250.

Told him I'd think about it. Oil is from leaking valve cover gaskets. It needs a good hose down and degreasing under the hood to find the oil leak.

Up to 2900 all of a sudden.....evil. Yeah I was about to interrupt the entire thread here and say buy it and sell it for 3k on the same day as is. Definitely worth the price, and probably worth 2900 as long as it's something you want and its issues aren't too extensive. Personally, I'd walk away just out of bitterness of the price hike haha.

I'd walk if someone has seller's remorse... the thing looks like it was used in a crash up derby... I'd hardly put it even in the FAIR category when gauging through kbb.com... for cheap vehicle that is dependable minus cosmetic issues, go for it, but if he's gonna jack the price after an agreed upon value, walk away... The passenger door paint doesn't seem to match.... $2250 is not a steal for a vehicle used in a crash up derby... haha Personally, if you bang your vehicle up like that and don't repair it, what else is hidden that hasn't been repaired... It may only be eventually worth parts in the end :-( Poor 4Runner...

That crap really grinds my gears.

$2900 isn't a "good" deal anymore. Its a decent deal at best. Considering the amount of work it does need, you could find a cleaner one for just a little more than that.

I agree with all your comments guys. It's a tan interior to and the guy boasts he had not cleaned it since 01. Mechanically besides leaking vc it runs nice, cold ac.

Dude did repair it but did it cheap as possible. Other stuff is cracked and not replaced. Like the air box and some relay looking box on the pass wheel well. It explains why it looks like a splash shield is missing on pass under side

But weirdo had the title in hand when we talking though.

I'll give it a few days to marinate. If I hear back from him I'm going to come back with a fist full of $20 to make it look like there is a lot of money 30 $100 bills vs 150 $20 hahaha

if he calls back and you really still want to deal with this, tell him $2k or you are completely done and looking elsewhere... Tell him you already have called on 2 other trucks you found! Seller's remorse cost HIM, not you for a crash up derby/fix it as cheap as ya can mess... I wouldn't touch the thing but to each their own Get a certified check from the bank when you buy something, it's safer than walking around with 150 $20's
