2006 Shadow Mica 4x2 Sport V8. I loving it. So quiet and handle great. This color is amazing in direct sunlight...must see in person to appreciate.

I got a question. I want to add HomeLink later, but the salesperson said it couldn't be done because the wiring harness for it is not pre-installed. It must be ordered at the factory he told me. Is this true?

Welcome to the 4Runner family and this GREAT site! Yes homelink can be added, many here have done it. Just do a search on "homelink". You will get just about any of your questions answered using the search.

And there is your first lesson in 'not listening to a word the salesman has to say' because they are wrong way more times than they are right. It's a shame really.

so the harnesses ARE included (based on readings of the attached posts..), and is more or less a plug-and-play affair

Yes and it is one of the easiest mod's to do. Search Homelink and you will get all the info and where to get it cheap (partznet)

Welcome, nice color.

Partznet has so many requests for the Homelink mod that they have a special link for it on their site. All 4gen 4Runner have the wiring already because it uses the map lights connector.

Can I upgrade to Auto-Dimming rear-view mirror w/ compass just as easily? Are the wiring pre-installed.

Welcome to the board and congrats on the new ride. Shadow is a great looking color for the 4Runner. As for the homelink, I added it to my 2003 Sport with no problems. It is just plug and play as the other members said. As for the auto dimming mirror, there was no wiring in my 2003 Sport for it. I ordered a Gentex mirror from http://www.brandsport.com/ for $99 at the time. It is identical to the mirror that Toyota uses. You can't order the mirror from Toyota directly because the wiring is not there. You have to wire it by yourself.

I'd do a search for that as I know the wiring of the mirror was in a "write-up" in a thread on the subject

I've been checking for the threat but haven't found it yet. A couple of months ago someone posted the wiring manual for the mirror specifically for the Runner that I used to install mine. The basics is running the wiring down to just behind the foot rest kick panel.

Don't listen to the salesman. I added the Homelink from Partznet...only took about 5-10 minutes to install. VERY easy. There should be a few posts about how to install if you do a search.
