Aftermarket black headlights - review and lots of pics

When I ordered my headlight it never had a company name on it. So I looked at my tracking number and saw that it's being shipped from "Sonic Lighting DBA Spyder" City of Industry, CA. I looked up Spyder and and saw that it was located in City of Industry, CA too. Maybe these headlights are from Spyder?? If it's from Spyder then I payed about $60 cheaper then buying it from Carid that says that the headlights are specifically Spyder.

I installed these in February and the passenger side just started fogging up. They appear to be the same ones discussed in the thread. Working on an exhange...

Well my is melting/warping around the projector... One side looks exactly like steveandstaci's picture a page or two back. I don't think I can get a refund due to the fact that I have modified the housing and installed halo rings. It's really frustrating that you can find a perfect product anymore.

It's worth a shot. Even though the headlights didn't work, I was very happy with DT MOTO's customer service. I was outside the warranty and they took them back with no questions asked. That being said, I had to pay about $75 in shipping to get them back to California.

I really liked these headlights too. They looked great. if only they didn't have this issue...

Yeah I liked the looks of them too. Although I must admit I had forgotten how much brighter the OEMs were until I put them back on.

After reading this thread in the long term, I've determined that I'll never purchase aftermarket headlights. Nearly everyone having to rig something up to get bulbs to fit, not as bright as OEM, the melting, the cracking. I don't understand why anyone would purchase these after reading these 13 pages!

Nearly everyone having to rig something up to get bulbs to fit, not as bright as OEM, the melting, the cracking. I don't understand why anyone would purchase these after reading these 13 pages!

Well, the melting and cracking happens 06-09 due to the sun light reflecting off the projector making the projector focus on a little part of the housing just like you holding a magnify glass out in the sun. I'm bulbs fit pretty good in the housing I didn't have to do any modification. I don't know about the 03-05 headlight.

Hi folks. I am new to the forum and to the 4Runner. Just bought a 2006 and the headlights need replacing. Both are yellowed/cracking and one has almost constant internal condensation. I really prefer the look of the black headlights, but, having read this entire thread, the quality seems hit or miss. Does anyone have any success stories to share? I am ready to replace mine, but am reluctant to order the aftermarket lights.

I'm finally in the midst of replacing my headlights with aftermarket Spyder lenses. The passenger side went well, but I ran into a problem with the driver side.

There's a few threads on updating from '03-'05 headlamps to '06-'09 units, but I'll give you a rough list of what you'll need:

• New Low Beam Bulbs (the projectors use H11 Bulbs vs. the old 9006/HB4)
• H11 Connectors with pigtails to splice in place of old 9006/HB4 connectors
• New sockets for the turn signals (they use the same socket as the '03-'05 turn signal assemblies in the lower bumper; you will have to make up your own wiring if you want them to work, but I recommend them to seal the housing at the very least.)
• Weatherproof Butt Connectors to splice the wires (these are the ones you heat up with a heat gun and they melt and seal the joint, very much desirable in this appplication)
• New filler panels that go under the headlamps (I would use a website like partsouq.com to get the part numbers and/or buy the parts.)

That's a rough list of what you'll need to make them work.

Is there a gap if you don't replace the grille as well? Really considering doing the swap if the gap isn't too bad
