I agree. That's always the first modification to any car I get. I drove my father in laws Acura with the blind spot indicators and honestly after about 30 minutes it began to get really annoying. When youre in traffic they are constantly going on and off in both mirrors.

I think it depends on the system. I never thought I'd care much about these kinds of systems until I tried the one in my wife's new Nissan Murano. Very accurate in almost all driving conditions, and very few false positives. It only beeps at you if you have a turn signal on, which I like. And the LED is subtle enough not to annoy as you're driving.

And, as it happens, she and I and our two year old were almost killed last night in a massive 4 car accident where the other cars were crashing into each at ridiculously fast speeds, and about 10 other cars were swerving all over the freeway to avoid them. They crashed RIGHT next to us. I "froggered" my way through it, and miraculously, we got through without getting hit. 3 people died in the cars that crashed. Not saying this system was the reason we made it, though it surely helped since it was pitch dark out. But today, I'm thinking a little differently about safety systems than I did yesterday...

Holy shit!! Man, I've never witnessed or been anywhere near that kind of scene, that's tragic. Glad you and your family are unharmed and safe.
 
I find those tiny mirrors to be useless, I end up having to focus on them too much to figure out what's going on and they waste valuable mirror space.

I have never had an issue with blind spots in the majority of vehicles I have driven when the mirrors are properly adjusted, save for vehicles like panel vans, trailers, and/or specific sports cars.

I have it in my audi and it is nice when its working. If the sensors get dirty it will shows inactive and random times too. So, i think its little too much and if you get a pro install i would say forget about it. I have about 70% faith in them and still end up looking.

I learned this method of adjusting mirrors 20 years ago, and it is the ONLY (IMHO) way to do it. Once you get over the issue that "everyone is taught the 'Old' way", and learn to use this method properly, most people I have taught it to never go back to the 'old' way. The only other side view mirrors I have grown to like, are the European type BMW ones with the split outer edge that gives one a better view of the lane next to you.
 
I think a lot of managing blind spots is situational awareness. Don't zone out behind the wheel, but maintain an active vigil of who you're passing, who is passing you.

Many drivers are happy to drive in another's blind spot. I don't let them drive there. I usually speed up to keep them back. If they want to stay in that position, I speed up a lot!

I prefer adjusting as mentioned - it works but right now my truck is our only vehicle and my wife has her preference for the spot mirrors. :(
 
how about a subjective post from a guy that has installed/sold 10+ goshers/crime stopper/brand motion

-Goshers can only be bought direct
-Crime Stoppers/brand motion are teh same as goshers at cheaper price

they all the same, down to swapping out control boxes and indicators. goshers are more expensive since it isnt sold thru alternate distribution channels

Goshers have round indicator with optional led indicators
Crime stoppers and brnad motion have little pill looking indicators. makes for a sleek install.

These are aftermarket sensors. they do what they are instended to do. However they DO NOT and are NOT intended to replace common sense and the use of your mirrors. If you think this is that, then please look else where and buy a new car with these as a factory option.

This system will not work exactly like factory systems, but very similar. takes some getting used to.

they have a audible and visual indication.

if a vehicle is in your blind spot, it will light up and light will go off once its out of your blind spot. if you turn on your signal and a vehciel is in your blind spot, it will emit a audible beep and continue to beep until the threat is gone or turn signal is extinguished.

Cant stress isntallation is KEY! bad installation = horrible experience.

I would recommend this as a driver aid along with Mobile Eye driver assist system.

Costs $849, plus you need someone who is authorized to install it or have a dealership do it according to instructions. sounds expensive . but necessary for the most clumsy drivers who dont pay attention to the road.

I installed the new Mobileye 630 a week after I bought our new TRD Off Road. I am a certified installer and have it in every vehicle I drive. They are not limited to any vehicle and are plug and play in almost all vehicles made in the last ten years. Excellent piece of equipment especially for old farts like me! :guitar3:

Is it hard to install? I wish to have one in my car too but Las Vegas doesn't seem to have installers or people willing to do it. It certainly is nice according to the videos. :cry2:
 
2020 TRD Pro BSM from Tacoma or Highlander

I know people have asked this before and people say just adjust your mirrors or get a $3 dot mirror... but that isn’t my question...

Do you know if it is possible to take the mirrors from either a Tacoma or highlander that has digital BSM (blind spot monitor) and place it into my 2020 TRD Pro 4Runner??

Drove my brothers Tacoma and loved it, wish they offered it in 4runner
