i want to put a pnp HID kit in my car. the 2005 does not have the projector h/lamps as we all know. where can i buy a set that will have projectors and i can just then buy a pnp kit to make the car .??? i dont have the skill to put in projectors in myself, so just wanted to know if there is a aftmk set with projectors that i can just use the pnp. ANYWAY i can do this??

I put in 2006+ projector headlights into my 2003 and used a PNP kit (H11 bulbs with 9006 wire harness). All in all, the factory projectors are fairly good and take an HID kit well. They're not as good as real HID projectors, but are much better than the stock 2003-2005 reflectors. It's a fairly easy project to do, just remove the old headlight, and put the new one in (plus the trim panel below the headlight). Unless you have an odd color that was discontinued in 2006 (like Pacific Blue), the trim panel can be bought prepainted.
I will be doing a retrofit with RX330/350 projectors in the near future since I'm not completely happy with my rebased H11 bulbs.

Also, there are a few that are not happy with the gap that remains on either side of the grille. This is almost unnoticeable, but if you want it remedied, you will need to replace the grille with the same edition (06+). Bare in mind, it will require trimming. I cannot find "Simple's" post, but he had to do extensive modification to the grille and bumper to get it to fit. I will be doing the same, as I prefer the look of the 06+ grille (more aggressive?), and installing the projectors for an HID low+fog setup. We are blessed with having projector fogs, which will make this a nice setup.

if you mean the gap under the headlight, they have to be purchased seperately, no ones mentioned how much $ for all the needed parts cost, that may be something to consider if you want to do a swap. my guess is 400 for the lights & trim, 100 for the HID, & the grille will be 150+, seems like alot to me, why not just use HIR bulbs for the non projectors instead? just my 2c.

1) the gap you are talking about are the corners of the bottom portion of the lens that "touches" the grille. No fix for that. You will have to live it
2) As far as I know, aftermarket or OEM projectors (for the 4Runner) are virtually the same, some may argue that the OEMs are better built. I am one of those people. Hey, ya get what you pay for...
3) What would be interesting is IF someone swapped the clear plastic so that you GET the projectors, but won't have that gap...........hmmm.......I've seen the projector assembly and the sharp cutoff is there, but with the swapped lenses, it wouldn't be AS noticeable.............:snacker:
I've always been wary of pnp HIDs, but so many do it. I'm even looking into do this mod.

Nevermind, apart from the corner, the bottom of the headlight assembly is different............so a simple swap of the clear plastic lens isn't an option.

Simple answer to that...no. Most of the aftermarket headlights with projectors are of fairly poor quality, the internals (reflector bowls, cut off shields) are not engineered very well and provide mediocre lighting. Are there exceptions? Sure! But with all the ones I have seen, the light output leaves a lot to be desired. If all you are looking for is to get the blue color, then go ahead and purchase a set from eBay. But if you're looking for actual usable light, look elsewhere.

Yes, there are projectors for 2003-05. You can find these on eBay and they usually have halo's around the high and/or low beam(s) plus three LEDs as eye lids. IIRC, the beam pattern isn't so great and I don't think these after market projectors use H11 or 9006 bulbs.
I would rather retrofit HID projectors in the 2003-05 OEM housing, or get the 2006-09 projectors.

If you are an 'eBayer' like myself, you can really get some great deals. I am picking up mint 06 housings (except for a missing tab which is repairable via the factory repair kit on the drivers side), for roughly the price you quoted above, including shipping to Canada. Shims and repair kit are about another $180. I purchased an 06 grill form another member here, for $100 (i'm going the 'Simple' way), which is not required but adds more looks. The issue with doing a retrofit is that you do not have existing projectors to replace for the Audi's, so be prepared to hack things up. You can always by my 05 OEM's for $120, and atleast attempt on them.
