After searching through some old threads It seems there are some conflicting answers out there. Does counterclockwise raise the low beams? I have found post saying something different. I was a lowering my passenger side low beam and heard a pop thinking I may need to try and re-thread the screw But not sure which way to turn in. Any help would be appreciated.

That screw way through the top is a joke.. get ur self a flexible ratchet extension and use a ratchet on the nut on the side. I think its a 8mm way easier and u will instantly find out which way at night
Yes thi is what I’ve been doing but I think the screw unthreaded and the headlight now aims downward. That’s why Im tryin to figure out which way to turn it in hopes it will rethread.

Agree. This is the best and easiest way. Doing it this way, I believe it was counterclockwise to lower. As mentioned previously, you can see it change on the wall as you go.

Never had any issues when using the proper size Philips screwdriver adjusting.

Hello All,
I'm in London, England - just imported a 2016 5th Gen 4Runner.
Need to adjust the Low Beams to point Left (rather than Right as they are set for the US).
Can't find any adjustment screw or bolt other than the Up/Down one.
Anyone able to help?
English Department of Transportation refusing to register my vehicle and issue UK Plates until the Low Beams are adjusted to point Left!
Any suggestions welcome.

LHD/RHD versions of the headlights would exist if 5th gens were sold new in a RHD market...I don't think they were though. I feel like Fortuners and other models were used in its place. You won't get LHD reflector style headlights adjusted properly for a RHD world due to the reflector optics, they are designed to throw light up and to the right to light up roadsigns, which will be right in the eyes of oncoming drivers. As these use projectors for the lowbeams you should be able to get them aimed decently, but I don't think there's a R/L adjustment on these, just up/down.

Yep, my 5th Gen 4Runner SR5 has Projector Low Beam Headlights, but no Left/Right adjustment screw.
As you say, Toyota don't sell the 4Runner in any Right Hand Drive countries so there are no replacement headlight units available.
The Up/Down adjustment isn't satisfying the UK Department of Transportation as still too much glare up and to the right.
I've been battling with this issue for 3 months now and struggling to find a solution. Guess I should have done more research before shipping the vehicle, but it's here now and I need advice, however radical!
My workshop guy is offering to cut the headlight units open from the rear and fit a baffle to shade the up and to the right glare. This seems like a last resort option to me!!

Your best bet might be to open the housings and retrofit a RHD specific projector (if such a thing exists).

No disrespect to IanB, but anyone else out there got advice/ help/ suggestions on Horizontal (Left/Right) Low Beam Headlight Adjustment (Aiming) for my 2016 T4R SR5 4x4?
I shipped my T4R to London, England in October 2018 and it's still at the Docks waiting to pass the UK Department of Transportation compliance test before I can get UK Licence Plates and hit the highway over here!
