Air Compressor Installed

Decided to install a little compressor for inflating tires and such... Got the superflow mv50 after reading some good reviews. Hard mounted and wired to a switch in dash... Seems like a pretty good little unit. Got the mounting idea from another member on here that did a write up.

Only modification I had to do was remove the cap on the head and tap the hole for 1/4" pipe so I can run a fitting through the plastic

That's a really neat idea. I was literally considering how I would do this today. Looks like you found a great spot for it. I think I'd be a little worried about knocking that fitting off with as much stuff is in and out of my cargo area. Do you have a place where you are planning to store the air hose on board? What'd the air compressor run ya? Any concerns for it over heating being boxed in back there?

1. Air hose is stored in the rear cubby on the passenger side... 25 foot coiled hose fits great.

2. Paid $90 for it from auto parts store but I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere.

3. No fear of over hearing because it right next to the vents in the plastic plus it it is right over a large vent that exits under the truck and acts as a drain so I think it has plenty of fresh air for what I need... Now if I'm going to be running it for hours that might be a different story. This unit does have a temp shut off safety on it so if it overheats it will turn off until it cools.

Just bought this same compressor from Amazon. And I was considering mounting it in the same spot! Nice!

Right angle drill is very helpful... Need to drill 2 holes in the body and there isn't a lot of room there...

Overheating should not be an issue under normal use. I've had mine there for 7 years with no issues.

Wiring would be exactly like wiring lights... Ground from compressor is grounded in oem location on the rear pillar ( you can see the location in the first picture). Power wire had to be extended and runs to a switch in dash. Power from battery has a relay and a fuse and runs from my aux. relay panel to the switch in dash. Switch is a simple SPST switch until I can order a nice one from Otrattw to match my others.

Keep a spare relay. I've had two of them burn up in those compressors.

I bought three of them when Checker Auto (O'Reilly's now) was closing them out at $25/each.

Good deal @ $25 each. I paid $49 for mine at Pep Boys about a year ago.
