Air intake box clip broke, replacement clip?

2000 SR5 3.4 One of the metal clips that keep the air filter compartment lid closed broke. The dealership says the clip is not available as a separate part. Can you buy just he clip anywhere? I guess the next best option is to buy a used box at a junk yard?

or improvise with a bungee cord or something of the like. Just go to the yard and find a box and take the clip off they wont even know what to charge you, if at all works for me. = )

The same thing happened to my air box too, and the old dealer I used to go to suggested a $400 fix, a new air box. (Yeah, right) You should be fine with one holding it closed. I actually leave the flap open, no real issues with that. Gives a throatier sound and makes the throttle a bit more responsive

Looking at my airbox, I guess it has always been sitting open about a half an inch. To clarify, is it safer for the engine's wear and tear that the air box have a tight seal (duct tape it shut) or is ok to leave it like it is now? Thanks.

Ehh depends on if the air filter stays seated against the back and has a good seal.

Mustang: Is your clip broken as well? There is no reason why your airbox lid should be open like that. Find out the reason (filter size, improper instal, etc) and close it properly.

lol 400$ for a clip. Least your airbox doesnt fill up with rocks and mud. My front fender well liner is gone. Surprised i havent found a dead bird in my airbox. I ducttaped a screen over the end of my intake tube. Seems to be working.:whip2:
