Air Lift 1000 Spring Kit on a 2005 SR5 2WD

I want to install these on the rear of my 2005 SR5 2WD but the folks at Summit Racing (cheapest price where most people get these) told me that they don't have them for the 2WDs. He said Firestone makes an equivalent product for that model. This raises two questions:

1. Has anybody installed these on a 2WD? Part number is 60809.

2. Any feedback on the Firestone product?

Thanks,

Mike

Are you talking about the airbags that sit inside your springs? If so, I'd contact AirLift with the inside dimensions of your rear coil springs, let them recommend a model.

Yes, the air-bladder-inside-the-coil-spring product. I called airlift and the technician said as long as I have coil springs (which I do) and there isn't a shock running through them (which there isn't), the 60809 part would work for the 2WD too. He did say to check the inside measurments of the coil springs to make sure that they will fit the air bladder, which is 5.38"wX6.5"h. I will do that this weekend to make sure before ordering the Air Lift model.

AFAICT there is no difference in the part number of the springs for the 2wd and 4wd models. I see no reason at all why they wouldn't fit.

Great, thanks for the feedback. I will go w/ the 1000s.

I would be interested to know where you located the air valves on your 4Runners, so that they are convenient yet sort of protected?

Also, any other gotchas to be aware of other than keep away from exhaust heat?

Thanks,

Mike

I would be interested to know where you located the air valves on your 4Runners, so that they are convenient yet sort of protected? I located mine on the left rear bottomside of the bumper. So far it's working out fine.

Also, any other gotchas to be aware of other than keep away from exhaust heat? Tips: 1) Run both lines toward the center of the axle and then up to the body. It's the easiest way to ensure that at full travel you won't pull a line. If you don't go to the center first you have to leave so much loose line it'll just end up snagging or kinking. 2) Decide whether 2 fills or one fill is right for you. I chose two. Two allows for right to left leveling and better on pavement handling (less bodyroll). 3) By going to the center and then up (then left) with the lines you will clear the exhaust just fine... 4) Consider installing as mmjmeade did... Upside down: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/56337-another-fj-suspension-done.html 5) Trim about 1" less off of the rubber cone than Airlift suggests. It has worked great for me and I have no regrets. IMHO if you trim as Airlift suggests the bag will be a bit a bit short and not work quite as well.

Thanks,

Mike

Mine came with thick donuts to put around the inlet at the end of the bag. Perhaps a few spacers like this would fit the bag more exactly? AirLift should have slightly longer bags if you mention this problem, maybe measure your springs.

One caution: You won't get full suspension travel with these bags installed. Not noticeable unless you off-road in severe terrain, but you'd have to modify or remove the bags for full travel. I never noticed it in my occasional dirt track excursion.
