Airbox mods for idiots

Its 3:30 right now. In an hour when my drill is fully charged I plan on putting some holes in the front of my air box cause its cold outside and i am too lazy to do the deckplate mod. I don't take it offroad much but im gonna arrange the holes so i can just put a piece of ductape to cover them all. Good idea? bad idea? Let me know what you think.

Hmm bad side is if you plan to sell its gonna be hard to explain what you did but I guess that's the same with the standard mod. If you plan on keeping it I don't see anything wrong with it. Take some pics.
 
The mod borders on ghetto in the first place and you'll be taking it to another level;either do it with a deckplate or don't do it.
 
you guys will hate mine then...

:jump: i just cut a square-like hole out of mine with my leatherman tool. i'll get around to straightening it out when i have the time. just have a plan to plug it up again if you don't like it.
 
if your gonna ruin a $460 part why not just buy a CAI, you will get all the flow you need.


$460 is how much the dealer wants for an air box, and a wrecking yard will want about $250 for one so you might want to think about that before you go doing something that cant be undone. -the air box aint no etch a sketch, their is no shaking that one off...

haha ill take that. Dispite all of the hating I did it. I just did 2 rows of staggered holes and will most likely do a 3rd row. i didn't notice much of a difference. It took all of 30 seconds and i am most likely switching to a standard cold air intake in the spring. Drilled 2 holes 1 1/2" apart. One strip of tape covers all of it.

Was this poor 4Runner given to you (by your parents)? Because given your level of regard for it's resale value, and the value of its parts, I can't imagine you paid for it yourself.

While I agree with you, every time I'm honest like this I get pm's from kind folks trying to help me with my people skills.:wtf:

To the OP... Why not just sit and watch tv and quit picking on your 4Runner? I'm not sold on the deckplate mod, so this is just not good.:barf:

Most people don't notice any difference unless they're on the freeway and have the throttle wide open.

Do what you think is cool, but be ready to pay for it if you screw something up. Not all of us are part of the elite mod squad.

My 4Runner came to me with the "Swiss Cheese" mod already performed.

Luckily, my 6" deckplate was large enough to cover all of the holes.

The "Swiss Cheese" mod was rather popular back in the day on VW Vortex... Sad...
 
I've done the Deckplate mod, and ISR, and love it! It may not have given me any extra HP, but at the end of the day, I love the sound it makes when I pass someone on the highway!

I do have to say though...if you're gonna hack it up, use the deckplate piece...makes it reversible, and could kinda explain to a potential buyer that it's no big deal.

That being said, the holes you drilled don'g look like they were drilled half hazardly....so props to you for making it look alright! :)
