Airlift (Firestone) Suspension Air Bags Rock!

I love my Airlift 1000! I have the simplest, manual fill version with separate right/left fill valves. These photo’s have about 75lbs in the T4R cargo area. The wood is wet and heavy. The trailers’ axle is set back so there’s a fair amount of tongue weight. The one with my 210lb fat butt tells the story…

I have 27L/24Rpsi in the bags for the photos.

If anyone is considering the Airlift or the Firestone I say do it. Generally it’s a $100 mod and very worth it IMHO… (I put the word Firestone in there for future searchers )

Thats neat. Did you inflate them higher prior to putting on the trailer and taking shots or is that what you run them at normally?

I liked mine until the one side didn't hold air anymore. I would have replaced them if I towed more often. Definitely does the job for a good price though and they are easy to install

Normally I target 15L/12R psi. Me and the gas tank are on the left and I think it drives best with a hair more air in the left. The pressure range is 5psi min and 35psi max. They do very little lifting. 5psi-35psi is under one inch empty. They're a levelling device not a lifting device for sure...

i second the airlift bags, theyre good & help with handling too, also when fully air up , you can gain about 3/4 in. rear lift with the stock springs.

Just curious, Airlift or Firestone? I've done both and think I prefer Firestone. The air lines and hardware seems better. At the time Airlift was the only one that listed my yr/make/model. Air line routing and tie offs is critical! Abrasion is truly the enemy of these things!

i myself went with the air lift 1000 mainly because i had them before, but was looking at the firestone reviews & some folk said they leaked, i guess its about who installs them, the ones in my jeep were fine,as are these ... so far,thats why i went with them again, & if you get an extra set of the spacers that come with them, you can gain at least 1/2 in. when theyre filled all the way up. they go to 35 so thats what i run them at, most probably wouldnt though, cj3flyer is right, thats not what theyre made for, & air line routing , tie offs, etc. are super important. if they do ever start to leak, i wouldnt get a new set, id get slightly firmer springs.

I also bought the Airlift 1000.....I installed them myself and they did leak in the beggining, found a real thin slice in part of the line....repaired it and as good as new.....I got them for my trailer, so when I go offroad I can disconnect the weight-distributing hitch with sway control and use the airbags so theres no damage to the sway control......I do find myself using it more and more just when I have any kind of weight back there as well.....its pretty awesome....


The pic is with 30 psi in the bags and about 650 tongue weight if not a little more.....

Mine were Firestone. The lines and bags looked fine when I removed them. I suspected the one valve was bad. I remember another person here mentioning that they had a valve issue and Firestone sent them a replacement.

Thanks, yeah it def. does its job......I think I'm gonna add the compressor to make it a little easier though.....I have my other compressor mounted in my engine bay but like the idea of a switch in the cab with guage.....

Nice, I have the same bags as you do and use them when I do track days and such. Without the bags, there is a little sag with just the bikes, but it squats if I hook up a trailor or toy hauler. I plan on throwing a tank underneath somewhere so I can air up/down when I'm on the track on trail.

Yep! A modified lift I guess you would say. It is a revtek lift all around from a few years back since X-REAS is still in place. Just waiting for an excuse to swap out to OME. With just the stock Revtek in, there is a slight downward rake in the front. It drove me crazy so I added a larger topout spacer to sit completely even. Well, when I tow I drooped a little in the rear (which is why I got the bags).

What PSI do you run when you are not towing? I think I sit at a steady 8PSI when not towing and then air up to even it out whenever I am towing. Its such a sweet mod! :bigok:

I run a little more. I don't mind the firmer ride. I target 15lbs on the left and 10-12 on the right. That seems to ride and handle the best for me without being too bouncy. I run the left a little higher as the gas tank, the battery and me are on the left side. ...it is a sweet mod.

They have standard tire fill valves. A bicycle pump, compressor or optional on board compresser works. I generally use the garage's compressor but if I am out I'll use the one I carry for tires.

Hey Guys, I am installing my Air Lift 1000s today, anything I should know about the install, trimming of existing damping rubber stop?

No its a pretty straight forwards deal...2 things I can lend a tip towards

1) Spray down your bags with wd40 so you can slide them easily in between the coils. Once you squash them down and hold your finger over the nipple, they should slide right in.

2) For the bump tops, there is enough room to get a razor blade and "push" your way through wearing gloves and using needle nose or anytype pliers. A new blade will cut through fairly easily. All in all I didn't even have to jack up the truck, just rolled right underneath it.
