Alignment with new shocks??

Just curious as to opinions whether an alignment is needed with replacement of stock shocks. I have a 2000 4R 2wd and putting the Trekmaster shocks on all four corners. The local tire shop who is putting them on is pushing an alignment for the front. I'll be using the old coils (no $ for replacing them right now). I've never had a vehicle long enough before to have to replace the shocks so its the first time I've ever encountered this...
