Almost time for new brake pads and rotors

I have a set of OEM rotors, turned an ready to go, just need new pads to pair them with

Genuine Toyota 04465-35240 Disc Brake Pad Kit are about $80, EBC DP6807 Greenstuff for $70 or Akebono ACT436 for about $50

Thoughts about OEM vs aftermarket?

And then there's always generic pads for like $30 lol

I've used Street Brake Pads STOPTECH (Centric) 308.04360 (for 16" wheels) about twice over now (with the stoptech slotted (only) and angled vane rotors (better airflow hence the "street" name). Each set lasts 65k, low dust and stops on a dime (if i want). $38 on ebay. Luck and enjoy that runner! :cowboy:

Last 2 sets of pads I put on my Matrix have been Akebono. For an aftermarket brand, I can't say enough good things about them. Dust is very minimal and they've performed excellently. They don't wear fast either. When I changed them on the Matrix, they still had about 40% on them after 3 years. But that's a small vehicle with manual trans.

I come from a history of owning GM cars. All my GM cars have needed brakes replaced basically every year. I used to get the cheapest aftermarket ones (because you really wouldn't get much more out of OEM GM brakes). So going 3 to 5 years without having to replace brake parts is very foreign to me, and the Akebono's have been up to the task without issues.

I love OEM for pretty much all things, but when it comes to something like brakes, I think there are many valid options in Aftermarket.

My son and I just put rotors and brakes on his '97. We just went all OEM from Camelback. It appears that OEM pads last a long time.

No, those warped long, long ago!

The stoptech pads i mentioned are being used with stoptech rotors (slots only no drill holes) and angled vanes for better cooling (so the rotors are Left and Right designated). So far, no warping on long downhill braking. :cowboy:

I keep my vehicles for a long time.

My MO for brake pads on the last 15 years worth of vehicles (mazda 6, yaris, 2x 3rd gens) is to get the cheap parts store pads with lifetime replacement, and just swap them out once a year when I regrease the slide pins.

The pads on these trucks are super easy to swap out, so why not.

The stopping power has been more than adequate for road and OHV driving.

Are the pads chamfered at the edges or nah? The schematic diagram indicates not

Look at junkyards around you. I got 231mm calipers and rotors with plenty of meat left on them for $80 from an '05 Sequoia. With pads and hardware, I was $140 all in.
