Already Have An Amp?

I have a 1999 4Runner Limited and today i was planning on getting a new head unit. I did most 95% of my research and bought all the stuff today. I got a Kenwood KDC-152, and 2 wiring harnesses. Since my 4Runner has the double DIN stock headunit already in it, i had to buy an instillation kit, which basically fits any radio you buy. Long story short i was about done and i was hooking all the wires up. The "Radio to Car" wiring harness didn't fit. So i went to Best Buy to try to find one that did ad the guy tbere explained to me that i have an internal amp. GREAT! So i gve up haha. Here are the wires coming from my car. There is inly 1 set cause i already have an amp...

So if anybody is trying to get a new audio system. Keep this in mind.

you can trace that wire to the amp and find out the wires that go to the door(harder). or you should just run new speaker wires to each door(easierand better) from the amp you have.

Go to the amp and tone each wire to the doors. Take a drill battery and run some wires off it and test the wires from the output side of the amp. It will pop the speaker in the door.

use a 9 volt battery tho, you dont want to use anything bigger, also if you short out the battery, its not the same no more.

Ran into that on mine too. I took out the amp and everything plugs in fine.
Follow the wire down. My amp was 4 inches down from the radio held in was a couple screws.

YES!!!!!

UNPLUG THE AMP!!! THERE IS NO REASON TO DO ALL THAT REWIRING!!! The amp is held in by 4 10mm screws, and is ontop of the tranny tunnel. Unplug it, from the back, and it'll plug right into your new harness. You're aftermarket HU will be plenty strong enough without the amp. The speakers will need to be upgraded at some point. I'm running a JVC HU, with Rockford Fosgate 6" front door speakers, and Clarion 4.25" in the rear.

USE SHRINK WRAP ON THE RADIO TO VEHICLE HARNESS!!!!

I love this place!

I ran into this with my 98 yesterday. I bought a new head unit because the factory CD player skips too much. I was at the races and bored waiting for our class to run. What the hell? Why not put the head unit in. Took awhile to get the dash piece off because of the 2 screws behind the HAC controls. Then I discovered the plug problem....I was very bummed out. Because, I did all the connections to the plug kits first. The hour drive home sucked with no radio! lol I tried to look on here with my phone but service sucked, so I gave up. This morning... about 10minutes on here gave me the answer I needed! Again I love this place. Thanks guys!

you only need to change the wiring if you are running an aftermarket 4-channel amplifier.

I have a 70W RMS x 4 amplifier. I upgraded the wiring because it was required.

Running from a head unit at 15W RMS, no changes are needed to the stock wiring.
