Alternative winch mount bumper design

Winch mount bumper w/o all the weight of an aftermarket bumper for 2nd Gen Tacomas:

Toyota Tacoma 05-11 Winch Mount Bumper

I purchased one, delivered promptly, just got it installed on my son's '07:







I have corresponded w/ the owner, he is considering developing one for a 5th Gen 4Runner. If the interest is there he will make it. I expect he will do as he did on Tacoma World, become a vendor and offer a group buy.

i like it, looks clean, 67lbs is not too bad either. good alternative to a hidden mount or huge freaking bumper.

Why not just a hidden mount? It weighs less than half as much, too.

My son's Tacoma has Bilsteins at 1.75" lift. Installing the winch and winch bumper dropped the front 1/4".

I'm not saying it's THE BEST alternative, just a different way. A little more protection than a hidden winch plus tow points, significantly less weight than a full bumper. Stockish look.

Looks really clean. I like the near stock look, and the advantage over the Budbuilt plate is the addition of the front D ring mounting points.

I'm hoping someone will make something like that to replace the faux skid plate area on the 2014 SR5/Trail bumpers. With the possible addition of a bull bar loop. That looks great on yours.

looks really nice, David. very similar to the Lucrum winch mount which was available for FJs for some time but never materialized for the 4Runner before the company went out of business.

Thanks! My son is pretty excited. He's a senior in high school, about to graduate. He starts school at Texas Tech in the fall. There is a lot of cool stuff to do within a couple hours drive of Lubbock, but that's over 10hrs away from me. I'm hoping the winch will help keep him out of trouble!

The design does look very similar, and US Offroad does make an FJ bumper as well.

Cool. My grandfather, father, uncle, aunt, mom and wife went to Texas Tech (I went to OU). My Dad's family has been in West Texas a long time and I love it out there. He should take advantage of it while there. You're only about 5 hours or so from Santa Fe, so you can go skiing on weekends and you can get to Moab in a days drive from there too. You should stop off to visit him and then both of you head to Moab for some awesome wheeling. Also, he can legally off road in the Canadian River bed north of Amarillo and the Red River bed near Childress. Just be tell him to be careful an not flood his engine crossing the river. I one had water slosh up to the base of my windshield in my old 4x4 Suburban on the Canadian River! Edit. It can't be 10 hours from you to Lubbock; I thought you were in Austin right?

Just wait until Lubbock gets its first big dust storm while he's there, I'm sure Beaumont dosen't get too many dust storms, we don't even get them here in San Antonio. Since you're over in East Texas, you and him absolutely need to take advantage of him being so close to some cool stuff to do.

My daughter graduates college with her BSN in two weeks! My son is playing PDL soccer this summer in Florida. He will be home one week before he reports back to school in August for his college team. When you have spent the last 20+ years with them it's not only their life that changes but you and your wife's too. Good luck!

I really like that front mount and hopefully he will be able to develop a nice front mount for the 4Runner too.
