Alternator connection troubles . . .

What's the best move here?

Replacing the alternator on an '07 V8. The main connection was badly corroded, and most of the eyelet broke off onto it. Looks like it's part of the main harness. Tried wire brushing, sandpaper, and baking soda water, but it seems like the eyelet is fused to the connection. Any advice?

You're not going to be able to reuse the old eyelet, get another properly size eyelet connector from your local auto part store, remove what's left of the old connector from the cable, then properly crimp the new connector onto the cable, connect cable to alternator, job done!

Thank you for the response. I guess the trouble that I'm having at the moment is what is left of the eyelet on the cable doesn't want to come off - like it's become one with the cable.

You need to split it lengthwise so you can spread it open and get it off the cable, it's meant to be that tightly attached/crimped to the cable so it maintains a good connection, the new one needs to be crimped just as tight on the cable or you will have issues!!

You can use a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel is what I would use to split it, the only other way I can think of would be hold it with Vise Grips and try splitting it with a hacksaw.

I was able to use a grinder wheel and get the old part removed, placed the new one on and crimped it. Thanks again.
