Am I crazy for thinking about this?

Currently have a 2011 SR5 that I still owe ova $15k on, really really want this TRD Pro loaded with all the cool accessories and stuff:

New 2015 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro in Vienna, VA | Serving Fairfax, Chantilly, Leesburg | VIN: JTEBU5JRXF5258282

I'll look cool driving this orange beast, but I'll end up with a lot of debt ... but ive been dreaming about this all week.

Way to little information to make an informed recommendation on your mental state. While I will not go as far to make any judgments as a general rule if you are asking these questions you likely should not pursue a new 4runner. Maybe you can afford it and while I don't think someone has to pay cash for vehicles (I didn't) "scrapping by" month to month living paycheck to paycheck is not really a good idea. If you have a solid emergency fund, have retirement savings in place then maybe consider it. One thing is don't get tied up on the monthly payment thing...........lots of dealers will get you into a new car for only 50$ more a month.....but now you have another 5yr loan term vs. one that would have been paid off in 2. End of the day it’s your money , your priorities, your choice and I wish you the best in it!

Driving the inferno is the the best thing you will ever do in your lifetime.

Do it!

to answer your question...
YES

1. make sure its a Pro, and not just a TE Premium...?

2. is your job stable enough to know you'll be able to pay?

3. will any wife be fine with the deal?

I say go for it, you only live once...

others may chime in asking if you are going to REALLY use its capabilities and this type of thing. and to not overspend just to be cool...but ill tell you this, and it still rings true. Almost every auto purchase is both about need vs. desire. and for me, it is high on the list that i am able to walk out, see my vehicles, and still have a lustful feeling for them sitting still just as much as i do when i am driving them.

its true for my street bike, its true for my race bike, its true for my old-faithful Black F150, and its true for my T4R.

so if that is what you want to feel this way...then go pull the trigger on that bad boy

If your willing to take on debt to "look cool" to people you'll never meet than that's a problem that has nothing to do with 4Runners....

4Runners hold their value extremely well, and while the KBB may be a harder sell for private party pricing, it seems a lot of dealerships offer pretty high trade in value. Depending on your options and mileage you may have a pretty large chunk of equity in your 2011.

I would go and test drive it, see what they are willing to give on trade and go from there. Just know you will likely not get as good a deal on a TRD Pro as you would a Trail Edition Premium.

I would not get it. Its a good feeling when your 4runner is paid off!

Mine is paid off, and I love not having a payment. All my cars are paid off now. Every time I lust about a new vehicle I just think about the car payment and I quickly realize its not worth it!

I'll help you settle this debate you have been having, I just traded in my 14LE for this TRDP, it is no longer for sale. Cheers

In all seriousness if you are worried about the increased payment why don't you save up for a few years then buy what you want when you are a little more stable. Or just say fck it and pull the trigger.

No I didn't trade in my LE if you are still reading this.

IF you have children who depend on you, dont do it,...be a responsible dad.

If you're young, single and have a good, steady job, then go for it.

I've already seen two former TRD Pro owners let go of their rigs due to poor financial decisions.

I say do it! Because I know I wouldnt. If anything I would fine me a nice 99' 5spd locked runner. My wife gets all the new cars and im happy to not deal with the technology in it.

Well, how bad do you want it? Can you afford it? You already know it's a really stupid idea, now you have to decide if you want it bad enough to take the hit.

The smart move would be to use your longing as motivation to get your ass out of debt so you can pay cash for the next neat truck that comes along and not take the hit at all. But there's fifty kabillion banks out there that would love to latch onto you like a bloodsucking leach so you can have that TRD Pro, so...

Buying a car from the dealership is one of the worst financial mistake our economy has taught us very well in doing. Borrowing money and paying interest is what we do all day so we can work our buts off to pay debt only to learn later that I shouldn't have done it.

I'm pretty much in the same situation as you. I've got less than 2 years left and that trd pro is enticing. But since buying my 4Runner I've gotten much wiser. I actually want to downgrade to a 4th gen to get rid of my remaining balance, so that I can have money to be in the other side of the game. The person making more money from the money I currently make.

Anyways with that said, if you're financially really stable which probably isn't the case because you still owe on your car then consider this trade to be a large liability to your financial future and I would strongly advice against doing so.

But you know what they say...YOLO [emoji23]

Your 4runner is the one I was just thinking of the BP trail conversion (except I remember you having round roof lights)......anyways still my favorivte 4runner and had they not come out with the remodel I was going to go the direction you did (the new interior sold me though)

You owe more on an 11 than I do on my 13, and I plan on paying it off soon.

I don't like owing money on trucks, or getting in to a cycle where I'm paying a 400-700 bucks a month when I can drive for free.

It's way too easy to buy a truck, and they bury the costs in endless financing...

...ask the bear god if this will make you happy.
