The is no real difference between gun laws and regulations for phones. It's just that guns get blamed when someone shoots someone else. Where as cell phones are a convince so we shouldn't regulate them as much. However most calling for stricter gun laws because "our founders never intended AR-15's to be in the hands of citizens". Would never agree to have stricter phone laws. The same argument can be made for anything but wooden press and typeset, ink and quill, and speaking. The bottom line is it comes down to personal responsibility. The state and federal government have "taken such a strong roll in protecting us from ourselves" that we seem to have developed an attitude where you no longer have to be responsible for your actions. You spill a cup of coffee in your lap and get a million dollars because you didn't know hot coffee would be hot. We have presidential candidates that say it's fair to sue the gun manufacture if a crime is committed with a firearm they produced. Well if my family gets hit by a drunk driver can I sue Toyota?

Sadly this society has turned in to a big ball of disclaimers and lawsuits. Take the whole house fan code in Washington. Washington decided to mandate whole house fans after lawsuits from section 8 housing (low income heavily subsidized) they (state) put as little money into these homes as possible and with low maintenance and low pride in ownership (common in all renters) mold and black mold developed. They got sued and payed money. They then decided to mandate it because since they were irresponsible everybody else must be. So you have one less avenue to sue them on if something goes wrong.

There is a law in the state of Washington that requires all drivers to carry chains in their car 365 days a year. One driver got his car stuck on a state forest road of some sort and had to get a tow truck to tow him out. Very very expensive to get a tow truck to pull you out of a logging type road in the middle of nowhere. He sued the state for the cost. They paid it. And it was deem that if he had tire chains he probably wouldn't have gotten stuck. So let's pass a new law so we don't have to be responsible. The amount of laws we have on the books and the types of laws are staggering. Did you know it's illegal to hunt whales from a parking meter in the state of Washington. Really? No Really?
Try being self employed and having private insurance. If you go to the hospital for something that happened while you weren't at work. It's like the Spanish Inquisition. Are you sure you weren't at work. Where were you? What were you doing? That sounds like work. Are you sure you weren't working? They are just trying not to pay any money. It has gotten a lot worse since Obama care but was was still a problem before it.

If we all took just a little bit of responsibility for our own actions the world would be such a better place.

If we agree to have strong gun training do we need a course to be put in place for cell phone use training?
I would imagine more people are killed because of cell phone use annually than guns. How many car accidents happen daily due to cell phones. Daily. It's staggering if you think about it.

Forget the world. Imagine if we could just get a little more of it here in the states.

And for the record, I am self-employed myself with private insurance, so I'm definitely aware of the hurdles there.

I would say the best comparison would be gun training vs driving training.

Agreed. There was a rummer in Washington state that they were going to up the actual driving skills requirements. To test the course the had a group of state patrol officers evaluate it, this was the late 80's no traction controls or other modern day babysitters. Over 70% failed and the plans were dropped.

Teaching tougher driving standards is only going to do so much. Eventually you have to go directly at the fact that most people don't care if they cause problems because they are so involved in their own small world. We see it too often with someone getting hit by a car and instead of passerby's stopping to help. They just keep walking. Looking at their phone/tablet/insert distraction here.

My intent was not to compare it to driving. I used driving as a example of when reckless cell phone use could and does cause great damage. Hope this clears it up. Sorry for any confusion.

I mean originally. It was Nevada who first made the comparison.
