The Republican party has been taken over by bigots, racists, and the ignorant, and this election cycle will see it make a major shift, or be gone.

I don't think it's fair to label every Republican like that any more than it's fair to say all Democrats are lazy wellfare babies looking for handouts, or that all (insert race) are (insert stereotype). It's very divisive and does nothing to solve any problems or differences.

True, the Republican party is a mess of their own doing. They are definitely out of touch with reality. Who knows if they will recover, or if something else will come about as a result.

That said, I don't trust the Democrats any more than I do the Republicans. IMO the Dems are as corrupt as the Reps are incompetent. Neither is a winning recipe for America.

As for Obama, I thought he would be a breath of fresh air back in '08. I do not like the ACA (in Republican or Democrat form, but that's a whole other discussion), and I have been disappointed that he really hasn't done enough to bring the country together and help push us past (or at least further along) the race issue. It does seem we've taken a step backwards there. Economically, I think he's been OK considering where we were when he took office. I don't know what else we could have expected. And the mid east has been a mess as long as I remember...

But what we way back in the thread were trying to explain was NOT that confusion between those two, but you saying, "every 4th out of 10 is 40%."

On the topic of Trump.........he is definitely in it for his brand, power & money and many now are speculating that he will use this to launch a partisan news network as he will likely lose & already knows it. So, if this turns out to be the case, you all will know very quickly who has played who & who is the chump. Whether or not you can accept it would be up to each of you but if he does not win and does start a news network then it's pretty simple, he has single handily destroyed the Republican Party of Lincoln purely out of self interest. Hillary Clinton is a gift to him, lets see if he knows what to do with it as the debates are the only thing that can change the current narrative for him.

Had the Rep party not been crumbling from within to begin with, Trump would not have had the opportunity. As for hillary being a gift to Donald, I think many would argue 'tis the other way around! And there are still some who think Trump and the Clintons are in cahoots to ensure hillary wins. I guess we'll know for sure in a few short months...

Wow. I would hope you would have the self awareness to realize that that is how you have come off to those of us on the other side throughout this entire debate. But instead of ignoring you we have taken the time to try to understand your position and better explain things to you.

So if it has more than one meaning that has been pointed out to be only slavery. But let's pretend it has more than one for a moment. It's been said its about southern pride. Proud to be different from those city boys up in the north. Where they can take care of themselves.

Here is a brief history on the confederate flag(s) used during the civil war. By Yahoo not exactly a right wing website. You will notice that the modern day confederate flag looks very different than the flags used to fight a war that was fought in the name of slavery.

I don't this that is what he means at all.

It's a free country, as a private citizen fly whatever you want but to the majority of people (other citizens), the confederate flag signifies the south fighting to keep blacks enslaved. As JD pointed out we have people here in Canada flying it even though it's very rare and rural. Fly it if you want but you can't deny it is overwhelmingly a symbol of the south fighting to keep slavery regardless of the flag's variations for a great percentage of all of your/our citizens.

As for the flag ISIS uses, I hope they all fly it so we know exactly who they are and what they symbolize.
