The boxes I use are two Q-Logic 10" single sub boxes.

It's not distortion i don't believe. Tomorrow I'll have to check and see if the wiring connectors are loose. That could be it.

Yep, I guess that's what it is, nothign in the box is loose. Oh well, I'm probably gonna resell the boxes then buy one single 12" box and sub.

I have a 100 watt amp that draws 14 volts every now and then and i notice my lights dimming at full go, but they dont dim much, just slightly...

also about mounting an amp under your seat, i wouldnt suggest it, overheating can kill an amp, i mounted mine to the top of my sub box

well, the amp i mounted under the seat is okay i guess. it's not very powerful yet, there's a slope so from the amp and the seat has air to go through. but i plan to rewire it to my subs since it's ported.

did you know, if you put the amp ON the box of the subs, the amp will rattle which the stuff inside the amp will mess up? unless it's ported like mine, meaning there's a gap from the box. this is what my friend told me, so just wanted to let you know. unless you could prove me wrong.

Usually a blown voice coil = no sound.

Check to see if the dust caps are coming loose or if the rubber surround is cracked or dry rotted.

Btw, the amps are perfectly fine under the seats of the 4runner. There is so much room under the seats that there is really good convection to aid cooling.

For comparison purposes, I have a high current amp under the seat of my truck with the seat actually touching it and even it doesn't overheat. At least in the 4runner if it goes into thermal protect you can just hit bi-level on the AC.

Mounting the amps on the boxes is not a good idea. There's nothing more frustrating than trying to track down broken solder joints in a circuit board.

There are more people with them under the seat than some of you realize. I haven't heard of anyone on this forum complaining about overheating there either.

I know a lot people mount amps to their sub-boxes but it is really not a good idea unless its rubber mounted to isolate vibrations. Heat is the one enemy for amps and second is vibrations. IMO there are too many components in there to take a risk.

If the lights dim then I would go with a higher output alternator rather than adding a capacitor.

i own a 96 base 4x2 4runner,i have my 4 channel amp under my driver seat for 9 years, and it was a phoenix gold sapphire series amp sa1.4x, never had a problem with heat, cheap amps heat up faster, the amp died last summer since it was juss to old, so i upgraded to a jl audio 300/4 and it stays cool there, nothing wrong with mountin an amp under the driver seat. do not install capacitor, it will do more harm, i suggest doing the big 3 upgrade with 4 gauge or larger and it will stop the dimming, if that dosent help, a capacitor with that big 3 would help, but i dont reccomend using caps. other wise upgrade to a better battery, like a optima deep cycle, or kenitik or oddessy batteries and itll even help u out more. i reccomend u to do a 1 gauge big 3 upgrade on ur car and it will stop the dimming

I second that. I have a Soundstream amp under each seat (1000w and 360w). So far, so good.

my 400watt amp is under the passenger seat. it's small so it would be okay. on the passenger side, i like how it slopes down which there's more venting area for my small amp. when i touch it, of course, it's warm but it doesn't seem like it's going to blow.
