i just relized that if i plug that 22re into my truck the problem may very well be gone due to my wiring being good....am i wrong?
 
that would be awesome. i have talked with a buddie who has owned many 1st gens and he said hes had bad luck with rebuilds. id be better off getting a used one.
 
10 4. ill talk with the my uncle (who i bought the 85 from, owns the shop, and helped me pull the blown motor) tommarow and get his opnion. he told me to go as cheap as possible, so im sure he will point me in the right direction. thanks a bunch for your help. ill be in contact soon.

Let's assume that your block is good then it's very easy to rebuild for under a grand.

Machine work $200
The machine work will vary depending on your location and machine shop. The shop I used here charged me $450 but I had a LOT of work done by them. Assuming all you need is a hone and mill the deck a few thousandths it shouldn't be much.

Engnbldr rebuild kit $250
Assuming you need a new crank (cheaper to buy a new one than have yours machined)
Crank $150
Are your rods good? If so then they can be taken care of at the machine shop for about $100
Fluids $75

So far the total is $775. This is assuming that you need basic machine work on the block and a new crank. This is also assuming that your head is good. But if not you can get a new head from engnbldr for a couple hundred bucks.
 
You better get one from Bad_Vision. Mine is fully rebuilt by a local machine shop and I'd be wanting $1k it has less than 20,000 miles on it. I was thinking about putting it my runner but thought if I could sell it and use the money for a 3.4 upgrade then that would be good. Right on SV_dude I was pokin fun at Bad_Vision really

some day.....bv my uncle located a 22re for cheap round here. i really appriceate your help and generosity. this will get me by untill im ready for my 4.3 swap. i llok foward to reading yours.:hungry:
 
just got done tearing into the old 22re. im suprised to see just how simple these little motors are. i can fix about anything on most rigs, and am a damn good fabricator but have never had to pull an engine or dig into one. i think im just going to replace the rods and main (not sure of the lingo yet) and put in some new rings. the cylinders look good enough. also the timing chain on the running motor i have is shot. im going to swap it out with the timing stuff i have in my blown motor since i did the upgrade last year. the tps also looks alot newer than mine so itll most likley be comming over as well . im new to all this but have an exp. machanic working on a cat dozer in the bay beside me. im in pretty good hands. also just for the record i am not expecting much out of this motor. i just want it to get me through one more deer and abalone season. she will get the vortec 4.3 sooner than later. any one have any pointers? i do have a hone for the cylinders...:withstupid:

Ps.. i plan on doing the allen head on the bottom tps hole trick but noticed the top hole is slotted. when i put it back dose it need adjustment or is it plug and play?
