This modification is only for 2001-2002 4runners equipped with the VSC TRAC system. 96-00 4runner’s don’t have this system.

Locate the VSC computer under the dash near the driver’s kick panel. The connector you are interested in is the 2nd one from the top (V18). Pull this connector out and locate Terminal V18-3. It’s a Red wire with Black Tracer. (EDIT: Note that the pin diagram below is as you look at the back of the connector - where the wires go into the connector.)
So I just tried to get this done, thought I had everything connected properly but when I turned the truck on my ABS light came on, and pressing the switch didn't trigger the VSC/TRAC light. Wrong wire on the ECU?
[MENTION=98153]MStudt[/MENTION] In your picture above is the correct wire (black wire - red tracer) visible in space 3 on the side opposite the connector clip? In the pin diagram, it shows V18-3 on the side of the harness with the clip.
and just to mess with me, both wires in that 3rd terminal on either side are red and black...

Guys, i was asked to help another member with a 4th gen perform this similar mod. So i just wanted to chime in an add a little thing for you guys.
I can be done so that this TRAC off mod can be done with a momentary switch push on and then it will be reset when the key turns off.
Simply changing how the relay is wired.
86 can be run to switched 12v ignition source
85 to a momentary ground.
this way when the truck turns on it completes half of what is required to open the relay, the other half is a ground signal.
push the button, it gets a ground. when you release the button, ground goes away but the relay remains LATCHED. its a pretty neat phenomenon. once the truck turns off the relay looses power then it goes back to the rest state, this will go back to connecting the 30 and 87a wires back together.
a small diode may be needed from 85 to 87 if the relay doesnt stay latched. 1 amp diode will do.
Hope this helps you guys. no more remebering to turn the switch off after you turn it on.

That's essentially what this MOD already does.
The TRAC OFF button is a momentary switch that you push in to disable to the traction control. Once the vehicle is turned off the that switch resets, and your traction control will be enabled the next time the vehicle is started.
It's just a simple one step process from start to finish.

You are correct, it is essentially the same thing.
This mod requires you to get that switch to wire in that switch. What I am suggesting is much simpler and cost should be under $1.
Relay 50 cents, switch 50 cents.
I'm making this much simpler. Rewire the relay that's it.
The original mod requires wiring the relay and then wiring up the switch also.
Just giving you guys an alternative so trying to source the switch and then wire the switch.
Been reading and reading for days. I’m still not 100% sure if this works on gen5 specifically 2015-2019’s. I think 2014 was the latest I’ve seen / read that it works.
Any input is appreciated. Thanks yes I am aware jt’s a gen3 section. But can’t find anything else.

Have you figured out this issue? I have done this mod using a rocker and a momentary switch and getting the exact behavior as you've described here.

This is just a quick write-up on the Andy MOD 2.0 using a real TRAC Off switch from a Toyota Avalon.
I want to start by thanking four members. Without their help, I would not have been able to make this happen.

Like many other members, I want to keep the stock interior look as much as possible. I started out by using a Toyota Avalon factory TRAC Off switch that I picked up from a fellow member.
This switch is normally open, and needs to have a relay to operate it. I picked up a 5 pin BWD R3074 relay from my local Autozone.
I then cut the red wire with the black trace for the Andy MOD 2.0. From here I used butt connectors on each end of the wires to extend them about 12" to the relay. This is a basic drawing of the wiring outline for the relay. These wires are run to 87A and 30 on the relay.
From here I used 86 as my power and 85 as my ground. My power is coming from an open spot on the fuse block under the dash on the drivers side. With the ground being directly below (picture shows it halfway cut off).
I have the main power from the fuse box running into the TRAC Off switch, and out to the relay (86). You can see the four wires all hooked up here.
I then mounted the relay to one of the screws used to secure the gauge cluster.
Next, I ran the wires to the location on the dash I used.
This is the final result. You can see that I moved the security module to another location. I swapped the security module and the CDL switch. Now I have the TRAC Off and CDL side by side.

Performed this mod per the above instructions and parts. Works when the switch is engaged. Turn off the ignition and put the car on Drive/Reverse/Neutral and the VSC and TRAC lights comes back on. Reverted back to normal configuration and again the same behavior. At Park no issue with the VSC and TRAC lights staying off and remains off until Drive or Reverse. No Check engine light associated so when I hook up an OBDII reader, there is no fault/error code detected. Any advise?

Trac switch connectors? i see 3 but the mod only shows 2?
Hey Guys, I am getting ready to do this mod. I got the hardware needed. I just have a quick question, I got this scion xb 2005 trac switch. I see 3 plate male connectors, are the 2 that are close to each other, just one connector? Otherwise i have 3 male connectors? How would i know which ones to use?
